Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis Are Trying to Make Freaky Friday 2

The stars of Freaky Friday are wanting to make a follow-up film. Though the 2003 film was one of many adaptations of the classic story, it is among the most memorable, due in part to the performances by its lead stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. In the film, the two star as a daughter and mother who switch bodies by way of magic, giving each a chance to better understand the other by literally walking in their shoes. Directed by Mark Waters, the film was a big hit at the box office, though it was never given an official sequel.

That could soon change, given that we are in the midst of the Hollywood trend of giving new sequels to popular movies from years past. Lohan and Curtis have both teased their desire to do a Freaky Friday sequel in the past, and in a new appearance on The Tonight Show, Lohan confirmed that the two have since gotten in touch to further talk about what could happen in Freaky Friday 2. As Lohan told Jimmy Fallon:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“We did speak about it, yeah. Let’s just take the fact that I was on set filming at the time, and Jamie Lee Curtis writes, and you just get excited and distracted immediately. So, I had to bring myself down to Earth and be like, ‘I’m on set, I have to focus.’ Then she said, ‘Freaky Friday 2,’ and I got more excited… We’d both be into it.”

Mean Girls 2 Is Also On Lindsay Lohan’s Wish List

With Lohan open to doing sequels to movies from decades ago, you can also count Mean Girls as another title she would like to revisit. In a separate recent interview with Extra, Lohan reiterated that she still wants to make a new Mean Girls movie, and while she acknowledges that the original is fine left as it is, she can’t stop thinking about doing a sequel.

“I’ve been saying yes forever, so I feel like a broken record. The thing is, it’s so tough [because] Mean Girls is so good the way it is. It’s like, ‘Do you really wanna mess with that?’ But you never know.”

Released in 2004, Mean Girls was directed by Mark Waters and written by Tina Fey. Focusing on high school cliques, the film also starred Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried. It was given a TV sequel in 2011 on ABC Family, though Tim Meadows was the only cast members from the original movie to appear. Certainly, a legacy sequel that brings back Lohan, and perhaps the other original stars, would generate a lot of interest for fans of Mean Girls.

We will have to wait and see if Freaky Friday and Mean Girls get new sequels with Lohan, but for now, fans can see her in her newest movie, Falling for Christmas. The holiday rom-com, which also stars Chord Overstreet opposite Lohan, can be found streaming on Netflix.
