Love and Thunder Deleted Scene Features More of Russell Crowe’s Zeus

Thor: Love and Thunder lacked direction for many MCU fans, and a new deleted scene continues to cast doubt on the focus of the film.

Marvel Studios

Thor: Love and Thunder was one of the most divisive movies of the MCU’s Phase 4 roster, and with almost two hours of footage reportedly being filmed but not used we are now starting to see some of the deleted and extended scenes that didn’t make the final movie. While director Taika Waititi has said there are many cameos featuring the likes of Jeff Goldblum’s Grand Master and Peter Dinklage’s Dimitri that won’t be released, a number of other scenes have started appearing online ahead of the movie’s digital and physical home video release. One of these shows a deleted scene involving Russell Crowe’s Zeus, but is completely at odds with his character’s appearance in the rest of the movie, which probably led to its deletion.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The new clip was originally shared by People, and see’s the Greek god visiting Jane Foster in hospital when Thor leaves her to head off to take on Gorr the God Butcher in the finale of the movie. In the scene, Zeus is hiding behind the hospital curtain before being revealed by Thor and in a very genial and jovial way offers a way to help him out. Of course, in the final cut this scene would take place after Thor had fought and potentially killed Zeus with his own lightning bolt in Omnipotence City, and it is unlikely that Zeus would be quite so jolly, as was seen in the mid-credits scene of the film when Zeus sends Hercules to take vengeance on the God of Thunder.

Thor: Love and Thunder’s Deleted Scenes Continue To Show The Problems With The Movie

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Recent reports have speculated that Taika Waitit may not be returning to direct Thor’s next adventure following the bad reviews of Thor: Love and Thunder. While Thor: Ragnarok was one of the best movies in Marvel’s canon, the over the top, almost cartoony humor of Thor: Love and Thunder coupled with a battle against one of the most ferocious Marvel villains to enter the MCU just didn’t sit well, and the recently shared deleted scenes have not helped by showing some of the things that could have ended up in the film.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been known for witty one-liners and visual comedy in its movies, but Thor: Love and Thunder seemed to tip the scales too far, with one review summing up the film by saying that if you can laugh at a running gag featuring screaming goats for an hour then the film may be for you. Even She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which is currently on Disney+ and was pitched as a comedy series, doesn’t quite push its comedic elements as much as Thor’s fourth solo movie.

The newest scene featuring Zeus continues to show the movie in a very disjointed light, and perhaps that is down to filming seeming to involve multiple possible ways the story could play out and then having to patch them together in a way that works rather than having a firm storyline in place from the start. Thor will certainly return to the MCU in the future, but for now Thor: Love and Thunder will hit Disney+ on September 8, with DVD and Blu-Ray versions following on September 27.
