fans are going to have to make the most of one of the dystopian series’ most innovative and unique episodes before it is purged from Netflix
on May 12. Following the removal of most of Netflix’s interactive content back at the end of 2024, they are now removing the last of these titles, which includes Black Mirror’s feature-length, Bandersnatch
.
Black Mirror started life as a Channel 4 series in the U.K., with later seasons becoming Netflix originals, and spawning Bandersnatch in the process. The latest season of the Charlie Brooker-created series has just landed on the platform recently, and has an episode that includes a Bandersnatch reference, making the decision to go ahead with the removal even more of a blow for fans.

Some ‘Black Mirror’ episodes eerily reflect real tech trends, serving chilling warnings for society’s digital future.
Along with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’s removal will close the book on Netflix’s attempt to make interactive programming a big part of their output. While the choose-your-own-adventure gimmick grabbed headlines at the time, things didn’t quite work out as planned and instead the streamer turned their attention to mobile gaming. There has been no indication that Bandersnatch, or any other interactive titles, will return in a more linear format in the future, so if you want to get lost in that maze of decisions one more time, then you have less than a week to do so.
‘Black Mirror’ Season 7 Is Still Delivering the Unexpected
Netflix
While Bandersnatch offered viewers the option of creating their own version of a story, the series has continued to push boundaries in new ways. As part of Season 7, Black Mirror has been playing with viewers thanks to Episode 2, “Bête Noire,” which brings audiences a strange feeling of thinking they have seen something they haven’t. In other words, the episode gives them the Mandela Effect.
The Mandela Effect is a phenomenon which occurs when people remember seeing something like a logo, or hearing something like a famous film quote, but in reality it never existed. Black Mirror is playing two different versions of the episode randomly to viewers, with one scene featuring a baseball cap playing with their minds. In one version, the cap has the word “Barnies” written on it, and other it says “Bernies.” Later in the episode, one of the characters has an argument about which fast-food name was written on the cap, again with different dialogue being presented to different viewers.
Obviously, this has led to arguments in real life, with people unable to agree on what they had seen, which was exactly the point of the exercise. At least for those mourning the upcoming loss of Bandersnatch, there will always be something new coming down the Black Mirror pipeline to keep them on their toes.
