Netflix’s long-gestating Assassin’s Creed series has finally been revealed by the streamer. The live-action adaptation of the iconic video game franchise recently got an exciting production update, but Netflix has now officially given the project a series order. Prepare to enter the past and join the Assassin Brotherhood to battle the Templar Order.
Netflix announced that they have greenlit Assassin’s Creed, with Roberto Patino (DMZ) and David Wiener (Halo) set as creators, showrunners, and executive producers. The show, which has spent five years in development, comes to fruition with a stacked creative crew bolstered by Patino and Weiner. Netflix is working closely with the Film & Television arm of Ubisoft, the publisher behind the best-selling video games. The upcoming series will be totally disconnected from the critically-panned 2016 film, which starred Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. Check out the joint statement by Patino and Wiener below:

Netflix continues its commitment to adapting popular video game franchises for the screen after producing Castlevania, Arcane, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, among others. However, while their previous work has been in animation, Assassin’s Creed will be the streamer’s most significant push for a live-action adaptation. Netflix previously announced a film based on the Ubisoft game The Division with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain, but that seems to be on the backburner. Patino and Wiener will have a tall task ahead of them adapting Assassin’s Creed, especially after the 2016 box office bomb, but fans should feel at ease after reading the official synopsis:
Assassin’s Creed is a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.
