The Gray Man Smushes Together James Bond with Jason Bourne, Says Star

Starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans as warring spies, The Gray Man promises to be a real treat for action movie fans when it lands on Netflix later this month, and star Regé-Jean Page has now arrived to hype up the project even further. The official production notes for The Gray Man have the Bridgerton actor comparing The Gray Man to not one but two action movie icons: James Bond and Jason Bourne.

“There is no limit to the scope of this film. It’s a global travel adventure, but with spies, explosions, guns, falling out of airplanes—there’s nothing that isn’t in this movie. It has this ‘How is this dude still on his feet?’ factor and it has that suave suits and sophistication Bond factor. It has that hyper-real, hyper-violent Bourne factor. It just smushes it all in and makes something tastier all together thanks to the marriage of all those elements.”

Page, who often tops the list of James Bond-hopefuls, states that the big-budget Netflix project “smushes” all the best elements of both the James Bond and Jason Bourne franchise, and while the two action heroes have become largely quite similar in modern years, The Gray Man could be the love child that we have all been waiting for.

The Gray Man First Reactions Praise the Big-Budget Netflix Action Outing

Netflix

While action fans await the release of The Gray Man later this month on Netflix (it will get a limited theatrical release at the end of this week), some have been lucky enough to bask in the handsome rivalry between Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans.

“Russo_Brother’ #TheGrayMan has unrelenting, well-constructed action sequences. Battle of wits, bullets & brawn. Ryan Gosling & @ChrisEvans share excellent repartee (and sleazebag facial hair!). Ana de Armas is badass & beauty. Dhanush’s scenes are ruthless & sharp,” said one audience member. Another calls The Gray Man the best action outing on Netflix so far. So move aside Extraction and The Old Guard. “Netflix’ #TheGrayMan is a solid action-thriller (the streamer’s best so far), with great performances by Gosling, Evans, and de Armas,” the early reaction reads. “The fight choreography and stunt work are excellent, to put it mildly. Overall a winner.”

Finally, while Regé-Jean Page has called The Gray Man James Bond-meets-Jason Bourne, this reaction goes for a slightly different flavor. “The Gray Man is two hours of James Bond meets Fast and Furious,” the reaction says. “Super exciting action, massive scale & set pieces, solid, self aware performances, consistent laughs, just a whole lot of fun. Gosling and Evans rule, supporting cast great, it’s a little obvious but never boring.”

Directed by The Russo Brothers and starring Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Wagner Moura, Julia Butters, Dhanush, Alfre Woodard, Billy Bob Thornton, Callan Mulvey, Eme Ikwuakor, Scott Haze, Michael Gandolfini, Sam Lerner, Robert Kazinsky as Perini, and DeObia Oparei alongside Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Regé-Jean Page, The Gray Man is set for a limited release on July 15, 2022, followed by its release on Netflix on July 22, 2022.
