A24 and Chernin Entertainment have shared the thrilling news that the upcoming musical comedy Dicks: The Musical will get a sing-along release. Dicks: The Musical: The Sing-A-Long will open in theaters nationwide this Friday, October 27th, just in time for Halloween. Audiences are invited to join in the musical mayhem of the film with this new, ‘Sing-A-Long’ version that will be made available in theaters for one week only.

To get an idea of the kinds of toe-tapping numbers that you’ll be singing along to, Dicks: The Musical boasts a soundtrack of 25 original songs including “Gay Old Life,” performed by stage and screen legend Nathan Lane; “Out Alpha the Alpha,” featuring three-time Grammy award-winning superstar Megan Thee Stallion; and the unforgettable, all-star finale number, “All Love is Love.”

The score and original songs for Dicks: The Musical were created by Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge!, La La Land) and Karl Saint Lucy (who wrote the music with Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp for F***ing Identical Twins, the original musical stage play on which the film is based).

With its impressively crafted score and star-studded original songs, the soundtrack is the connector between the film’s absurdist humor and poignant messaging.

Dick: The Musical Follows Two Self-Obsessed Businessmen Who Discover They’re Long-Lost Identical Twins

Twentieth Century Fox

Directed by Larry Charles and based on the off-Broadway musical by Josh Sharp and Aaron Jackson, Dicks: The Musical hails from the producers behind the 2017 musical smash-hit The Greatest Showman, with Larry Charles best known for the likes of Borat, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Seinfeld. You can check out the official synopsis for Dicks: The Musical below:

“Two self-obsessed businessmen (writers/stars Aaron Jackson & Josh Sharp) discover they’re long-lost identical twins and come together to plot the reunion of their eccentric divorced parents, in this riotously funny and depraved musical from comedy icon Larry Charles (SEINFELD, BORAT) also starring Megan Thee Stallion, Nathan Lane, Megan Mullally, and Bowen Yang as God.”

Dicks: The Musical brings together a stellar cast, including Tony Award winner Nathan Lane (The Producers, Beau Is Afraid), Megan Mullally (Will & Grace, Percy Jackson and the Olympians), Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live, Bros), Grammy Award-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), Aaron Jackson (National Lampoon Radio Hour), and Josh Sharp (Search Party).

Dicks: The Musical premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival back in September where it was met with rave reviews from several critics. “The songs are legitimate toe-tappers,” says Vanity Fair, with Variety praising the comedy as “raucous, deliriously madcap.”

Collider meanwhile says, “With Broadway-style dancing and a cast of eccentric characters, the film’s tantalizing premise guarantees a musical unlike any other.”

MovieWeb’s own Jericho Tadeo calls Dicks: The Musical an “An Unapologetically Gay Movie” and praises writers and stars Josh Sharp and Aaron Jackson.

“Sharp and Jackson write like they have nothing to lose, aiming for the darkest or boldest punchline and, frankly, hitting every bullseye. No stranger to transgressive material, Charles’ direction here is masterful, at once leaning into the artifice of the movie’s world while never losing sight of the tender, more heartfelt moments between its characters.”

Dicks: The Musical was released in theaters on October 6, 2023, with Dicks: The Musical: The Sing-A-Long set to be released for a limited time on Friday, October 27.
