The Way of Water to Lose Number One at the Box Office Against Knock at the Cabin

The winning streak for Avatar’s sequel is set to come to an end thanks to M. Night Shyalaman’s latest film, Knock at the Cabin.

It looks like James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water will finally lose the box office throne thanks to another big name in the industry, M. Night Shyamalan. Knock at the Cabin, the most recent release from the director of The Sixth Sense, will take the lead this weekend after a great debut, positioning itself as one of the most successful of his career.

According to ComicBook.com, Knock at the Cabin debuted with a total of $5.4 million on its first day and will reach $14.7 this weekend, with Paramount Pictures’ sports comedy 80 for Brady taking the second place with $13 million, leaving behind the equally impressive $10.2 of The Way of Water for the third place, which managed to stay at number one for a total of 7 consecutive weeks, something that only the first Avatar had achieved. The top 5 also includes Universal Pictures’ latest animated success, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and The Chosen Season 3, in the 4th and 5th place, respectively.

Despite its good numbers at the box office, Knock at the Cabin is drawing mixed reviews. However, some claim it to be one of Shyamalan’s best works, alongside Servant. While others have severely punished it for the poor script and character development, even calling it predictable, something the director always tries to escape.

Cameron, for his part, will continue to rule the box office next week, not only with The Way of Water but also with Titanic. The 1997 classic will return to theaters to celebrate its 25th anniversary with an improved version. This revival could give the director the top 3 in the list of highest-grossing films if Titanic manages to surpass Avengers: Endgame and Avatar 2 continues its success.
