Cult action role-playing game Bloodborne is getting a R-rated animated movie adaptation, with YouTuber JackSepticEye serving as producer.
The original Bloodborne was released in 2015 and took influence from the works of fantasy horror authors Bram Stoker and H. P. Lovecraft. The game went on to sell over 7million copies but developers FromSoftware never made a sequel.
Announced at last night’s CinemaCon (April 13), Sony boss Sanford Panitch said the animated take on Bloodborne would be “very true” to the gory video game (via Variety).
The film will be co-produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation and YouTuber and gaming content creator Seán McLoughlin AKA JackSepticEye.
honestly i infinitely have so much more faith in my favorite game getting an adaptation when the person behind it realizes that animation is the the best possible route for a fromsoft title instead of live action 🙂↕️ https://t.co/RY50sFa1rp

“Sony Pictures is officially making an animated Bloodborne feature film. I am producing this project and you have no idea how incredibly excited I am to finally be able to talk about it,” he wrote on Reddit shortly after the reveal. “I am going to do everything in my power to make this the BEST Bloodborne adaptation possible. Not only is it my favourite game ever made but I know how truly passionate the fans of this game are and how much hunger they have for more of it,” he added. “I can’t share much about the project right now but man does it feel good to let you all know it’s happening.”
Last year, fans were convinced a new Bloodborne game was in the works after a 30th anniversary PlayStation video used footage of the original game alongside the caption “It’s about persistence”. Shortly after, two fan-made Bloodborne projects were taken down at the request of Sony but nothing has ever been announced.
Creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has also acknowledged the demand for a remastered take on Bloodborne. “I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value,” he explained. “Things you weren’t able to achieve on previous generations of hardware, ways you weren’t able to render specific expressions.”
While there might not be any concrete plans for more Bloodborne, FromSoftware are set to release Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods later this year which some fans believe is a spiritual successor to Bloodborne.
In other news, new Xbox chief Asha Sharma has admitted that Xbox Game Pass has become “too expensive”.
