Forget Coachella, Billie Eilish to headline ‘Fortnite’ main stage

Billie Eilish announced that she’d be taking to Fortnite on its festival’s headline stage today (April 23).

The ‘Ocean Eyes’ singer will be a playable character in Fortnite Festival, Fortnite‘s rhythm game that emulates the likes of Guitar Hero and Rock Band. We don’t know exactly what this collaboration will include, or which of the singer’s songs, but when previous artists took the virtual stage, players were able to play as them and play some of their top hits.

Eilish will be headlining Fortnite Festival season three. Lady Gaga appeared in season two, and The Weeknd kicked off season one. While the battle royale mode of the game frequently adds new characters, like Zuko, Katara, Toph, and Aang, the festival stage is the perfect place to add musical artists.

Other artists have been added to Fortnite, too. Ariana Grande was added to the game before the festival mode was made, and Travis Scott and Marshmellow famously held huge music events within it.

Eilish’s Fortnite appearance comes ahead of her third album ‘Hit Me Hard And Soft’, out May 17 (see the tracklist here). The singer also appeared at Coachella 2024 and previewed her new song, ‘Lunch’, during a DJ set.

Billie Eilish was a surprise guest at Coachella 2024 during Lana Del Rey’s headline set. They sang ‘Ocean Eyes’ together, and Eilish later said that it “wouldn’t even exist without” Del Rey. Eilish described singing with the star at Coachella as “literally a hallucination.”

In other news, Lord Of The Rings is getting a cosy game, Tales of the Shire, where players can create their own Hobbit and fish, forage, and garden in the idyllic village of Bywater.
