Maya Hawke feared “never working again” after ‘Stranger Things’ finale

Maya Hawke has spoken about the depression she experienced following the end of Stranger Things, as well as her fear that she wouldn’t work again.

The actor played Robin Buckley from seasons three to five of the Netflix smash hit, which came to an end with the finale episode in December. Speaking on Consequence’s Kyle Meredith With… Podcast, the actor and musician spoke about being in a negative mental state after the show ended.

When asked what that entailed, she replied: “fear of never working again, fear of not being a good actor — like just having been well cast in this one big thing that knew how to use me right and then I was going to lose [that]. And that I didn’t know anything else and that I just sucked. I was just really scared and lonely and I was really worried about it all.”

However, she reflected: “And so to be now a year past that year of sad and feeling like there’s so much stuff in the cannon, I’m really grateful and feeling really proud and happy.”

Her upcoming projects include the romantic comedy Wishful Thinking, studio album ‘Maitreya Corso’, and a role in the forthcoming Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise On The Reaping.

Her father, actor Ethan Hawke, shared his advice to her after Stranger Things came to and end. “Time to move on. You got to do it, and move on. Don’t look back,” he told Variety. Elsewhere, the actress recalled the amusing advice her mother, Uma Thurman, gave her when she worked with director Quentin Tarantino on the 2019 movie Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

In February, Maya Hawke married fellow musician Christian Lee Hutson at a surprise intimate Valentine’s Day NYC ceremony. Several of her castmates from the show were in attendance.
