Watch members of Iron Maiden and Tool jam at a family wedding

Members of Iron Maiden and Tool got together for a short jam at a family wedding recently – watch footage of the moment below.

Last week (September 12), Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith’s daughter Natasha got married in Tuscany, Italy. While details of the ceremony remain private, someone who was present captured footage of Smith taking to the stage following the exchanging of vows to perform a couple of songs.

Joining him onstage were longtime Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain – who retired from touring last year – and Tool bassist Justin Chancellor. Smith was also on vocal duty. The footage shared on social media show the trio jamming to the Jeff Beck classic ‘Going Down’. It is currently unclear if the trio performed anything else.

The wedding jam session marks the first time that Nicko McBrain has performed in public since retiring from touring in December last year. The drummer joined the Iron Maiden line–up back in 1982, replacing Clive Burr, and played on all of their albums since 1983’s ‘Piece Of Mind’.

McBrain’s retirement came as he suffered a minor stroke, or transient ischaemic attack, in January 2023 which left him partially paralysed on his right side from the shoulder down.

Following his stroke, McBrain underwent 10 weeks of “intensive therapy” in an effort to get back to full strength, and within months he was ready to start rehearsals with the rest of the band, ahead of their ‘The Future Past’ tour. He did admit earlier last year, however, that there were some songs that he “can’t play” in the way he had previously done.

McBrain played his final show with Iron Maiden in Sao Paulo, Brazil on December 8, closing out the set with ‘Wasted Years’. The band have since confirmed that Nicko has not left the band, and will continue to record drums with the band for any upcoming material they have planned.

Simon Dawson was then confirmed as the replacement for McBrain. Prior to taking over from McBrain, Dawson played in British Lion, the hard rock project of Iron Maiden founder Steve Harris.
