Blue Jays’ Jackson admits he was tipping pitches to Judge

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Jay Jackson believes he was tipping pitches to New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge during an at-bat in Monday’s game.

“From what I was told, I was kind of tipping the pitch,” Jackson told The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

Judge appeared to look into the Yankees’ dugout several times during the at-bat, sparking a firestorm of controversy.

“It was (less) my grip when I was coming behind my ear,” Jackson said. “It was the time it was taking me from my set position, from my glove coming from my head to my hip. On fastballs, I was kind of doing it quicker than on sliders. They were kind of picking up on it.”

Jackson initially questioned why Judge was looking to the dugout.

“I really haven’t seen hitters do that, so I can’t say what he was really doing,” Jackson said Monday, according to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi.

The Blue Jays optioned Jackson to Triple-A Buffalo ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Yankees. The 35-year-old said he’ll learn from the incident and adjust to Judge if they face each other again.

“It is what it is,” Jackson said. “I’ve got to clean it up, go back, and get him the next time.”
