Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah enjoyed a strong return to the majors with a dominant outing against the Detroit Tigers in a 12-2 win Friday.
Manoah allowed one earned run over six innings with eight strikeouts and zero walks in his first start since being recalled from the minors following a month-long demotion.
“I’ve been waiting for this outing for a long time,” Manoah said, according to the Associated Press. “This feels great. I’m excited about the strides I’ve made over the last month and I’m looking forward to building off them.”
The game marked the first time Manoah didn’t walk a single batter in a start over his last 27 appearances (playoffs included), according to Sportsnet Stats.
“This is what we saw when he was working in Florida and New Hampshire,” manager John Schneider said. “I’m really proud of the way he has handled this and the work he has put in to get back here.”
The Blue Jays optioned the 25-year-old in early June after he posted a 6.36 ERA and 6.52 FIP over his first 13 starts this season.
The 2022 AL Cy Young finalist and first-time All-Star amassed a 2.24 ERA with 0.99 WHIP and 180 strikeouts over 196 2/3 innings (31 starts) last year.
