Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. won’t play Sunday against the Houston Texans due to an ankle injury.
“B.T., he can roll, and he rises to playing against these guys he has in the past and had a huge moment for us in that game last time to seal that victory,” Jaguars coach Liam Coen said about Thomas on Friday, according to Michael DiRocco of ESPN.
“So, not having him is a big deal for us, and those guys are going to continue to have to step up again this week and go make some dirty, grimy, contested plays, and that’s the kind of game it’s going to have to be.”
Thomas leads Jacksonville with 30 catches and 420 receiving yards.
The Jaguars will face the Texans without their top two receivers, as they recently placed two-way rookie Travis Hunter on injured reserve with a knee issue.
Thomas hurt himself on a big play in the fourth quarter of last week’s overtime win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Without Thomas and Hunter, the Jaguars’ wide receiver depth chart features Parker Washington, Tim Patrick, and Jakobi Meyers, a former 1,000-yard wideout who joined the team this week as part of a trade from the Raiders.
Jacksonville also rosters receiver Dyami Brown. However, Brown has yet to clear concussion protocol ahead of the matchup against Houston.
