Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett won’t attend the start of the team’s offseason program as he seeks a contract extension, sources told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Brissett has requested a new deal that would pay him a starting-level salary, Rapoport adds. The veteran passer won’t face any fines for skipping workouts since the first phase of the offseason program is voluntary.
The 33-year-old is scheduled to earn a base salary nearing $4.9 million in 2026 with $1.5 million guaranteed, according to Over the Cap.
The Cardinals released Kyler Murray on March 11 after seven seasons and will start a new quarterback under center in 2026. Brissett led the club to a 1-11 mark as a starter last year, passing for 3,366 yards, 23 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
In 2025, Arizona’s offense averaged 232.6 passing yards (seventh in the NFL) and 20.9 points per contest. The Cardinals struggled to provide adequate blocking in front of Brissett, allowing him to be sacked 43 times.
General manager Monti Ossenfort declined to name a starting passer during his pre-draft meeting Thursday.
“We’re not really naming anybody,” Ossenfort said, according to team reporter Zach Gershman. “We’ll see how that room looks by the time we get in August.”
Holding the No. 3 overall selection, the Cardinals could select a quarterback in next week’s draft and have been linked to Alabama prospect Ty Simpson.
Brissett has primarily served as a backup option over the past few seasons. He began his career with the New England Patriots before spending time with the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, and Washington Commanders.
