Report: Celtics trade Brown to 76ers for George, 4 draft picks

The Boston Celtics are trading veteran wing Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Philadelphia is reportedly parting with Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-rounders in the deal. Boston is receiving a 2028 first-rounder that could convert to a right to swap picks, as well as Philadelphia’s unprotected first in 2031, according to Charania. The second-round picks are reportedly in 2028 and 2030.

After emerging in the Celtics’ reported offer for Giannis Antetokounmpo, Boston apparently continued to field calls on Brown, who led the team in scoring last season at a career-high 28.7 points per game. On Tuesday, it was reported that the 29-year-old had grown frustrated with the team’s offseason approach.

Brown likely slots into George’s place in the 76ers’ starting lineup next season alongside backcourt duo Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. He’ll also join forces with star center Joel Embiid, whom he criticized for “flopping around” during Philadelphia’s Game 7 win over Boston in the first round of the playoffs.

“We tried a bunch of different things,” Brown told reporters after the loss. “He’s a big body. He also was flopping around. He got some extra calls and stuff like that, and they rewarded him for that.”

Soon after, Brown doubled down on his remarks about Embiid and the referees in the series during a livestream. The NBA fined him $50,000 for those comments.

George, a nine-time All-Star, averaged 17.3 points last season but played just 37 games due to a 25-game suspension and injuries to his left knee.
