Report: Cole likely out 10-12 weeks with elbow injury

New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole doesn’t require Tommy John surgery on his injured pitching elbow at this point in time, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Cole will use rest and rehab in an attempt to return to the team’s rotation in 10-to-12 weeks, according to Feinsand.

The reigning AL Cy Young winner visited Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Thursday to get a second opinion.

Cole, 33, was shut down Monday and underwent imaging after he wasn’t recovering as quickly as usual following his throwing.

The six-time All-Star posted a 2.63 ERA with 0.98 WHIP and 222 strikeouts over an MLB-high 209 innings (33 starts) last season.

New York’s rotation projects to include Marcus Stroman, Carlos Ródon, Clarke Schmidt, Nestor Cortes, and Clayton Beeter to begin the 2024 campaign.
