Ty Madison continued his dominant stretch on the hill, but the No. 4 South Dakota State baseball team couldn’t produce enough offense in a 4-1 loss to No. 1 Nebraska in the opening game of the NCAA Tournament’s Lincoln Regional.
South Dakota State will play either No. 2 Ole Miss or No. 3 Arizona State in an elimination game at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 30.

Madison tossed five innings in relief of starter Sam Schlecht. The Summit League tournament MVP allowed two runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts, facing two over the minimum.
The Jackrabbits’ only run came in the top of the seventh. Keagen Jirschele scored on an Owen Siegert single. Jirschele reached base on a fielder’s choice, with SDSU looking to score Carter Taylor on a bunt. Taylor was nabbed at the plate, but Jirschele reached first. Franke was also thrown out at home on a Nic Werk single.
Nebraska posted two runs in the fourth attributed to Schlecht, and tagged Madison for two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Dylan Carey, brother of South Dakota softball player Brooke Carey, continued to dominate South Dakota State, going 3-for-3 to move his season line against the Jackrabbits to 8-for-8 with two doubles, a home run, a walk, three RBIs and two runs scored.
