Fans hoping to tailgate outside Reliant Stadium before the Texans attempt to win their first game of the season against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday are paying more than usual for tickets.
A lot more.
Tickets to access the tailgating areas outside the stadium were selling for just over $173 on the team’s official marketplace as of Saturday afternoon. That’s nearly four times as much as the next home game against the New York Giants on Oct. 25, where tailgating tickets are going for $46, and nearly six times as much as the $29 tailgating tickets for a game against the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 19.
Some Texans fans have taken to social media to vent their frustration at the elevated tailgating ticket prices against the team’s in-state rival.

The team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Texans have endured a frustrating start to the season, dropping their first three games despite coming into the year with Super Bowl hopes.
Sunday’s matchup with the Cowboys has generated high prices beyond tailgating. The lowest price for a game ticket on the team’s official marketplace was $293, with many resale tickets priced even higher. After the Cowboys game, tickets for every Texans matchup for the rest of the year are selling for under $100.
According to the Associated Press, the Texans do not use a dynamic pricing model – where ticket prices update in real-time based on demand – but the elevated prices for a Cowboys game were not a surprise to ticket resellers.

Before the season, ticket resale marketplace Houston Ticket Brokers rated the Cowboys game as the “single highest-resale-value home game on the 2026 schedule.” The brokers cited the in-state rivalry and willingness of fan bases to travel as reasons for the high prices.
But the $173 tailgating tickets are exceptional. Only a handful of other teams offer comparable packages, which give fans access to the tailgate area around Reliant Stadium but not the game itself.
Tailgating tickets do not allow fans to drive their vehicles into the lots or attend the game. Those require separate parking passes and game tickets, respectively. The parking pass also allows fans to set up a tailgate in their spot.
