From the moment the official trailer for Oscar-nominated director Celine Song’s new romance drama, Materialists, was released online, many rom-com movie lovers had only one pressing question to ask: Were you Team Pedro or Team Chris? Of course, the idea of Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans playing the lead roles in a romantic comedy would spark some fan discourse on social media. Following her critically acclaimed debut, Past Lives, Song’s second film took two of Hollywood’s heartthrobs and put them in a complicated love triangle with actress Dakota Johnson, who plays Lucy, a thriving matchmaker living in New York City.
Shortly after Materialists premiered in theaters across the U.S. on June 13, 2025, countless romance movie fans flocked to their nearest cinema to see which one stole Lucy’s heart. Upon its release, the film received mixed reviews from viewers and critics. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Materialists earned a 79% Tomatometer score and a 67% Popcornmeter score. Aside from the split reviews, Materialist performed fairly well at the box office. The A24 film grossed $51 million worldwide, which included $36 million domestically and $15 million internationally.

But, if you were unable to see the romantic dramedy in theaters, then don’t worry, because it is now available to watch on digital. While the movie is still showing in theaters, Materialists (starting on July 22) is available to buy or rent online on digital in 4K Ultra HD, starting at $19.99 on Prime Video and Apple TV. Once the film is no longer available to watch in theaters, which is expected to stop sometime in late August or September, Materialists will arrive on HBO Max — until then, you can still watch Pascal and Evans bring on the charm from the comfort of your own home.
Pedro Pascal Says He Didn’t Feel Like a “Catch” While Filming Celine Song’s ‘Materialists’
A24
Despite being named the “internet’s daddy,” Pascal revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair back in June that he didn’t feel confident heading into filming Materialists. During the candid interview, The Fantastic Four: First Steps star revealed that he felt physically and emotionally drained when it came time to film the movie alongside Evans and Johnson. At the time, the 50-year-old actor was dealing with a back injury he experienced on the set of 2024’s Gladiator II — in addition to falling down the stairs of his father’s home in Chile — Pascal didn’t think he could nail being Manhattan’s most eligible bachelor. He told the publication:
“It was the oldest I’d ever felt in life,” he confessed. “It was the weakest I’d ever felt. It was such a scary, fraudulent thing to feel like I could play somebody who was the catch of Manhattan.”
However, Pascal’s performance was nothing short of stellar. He truly shone on-screen, and the chemistry between his character and Johnson’s Lucy was evident from the start.
