Amy Jo Johnson Blasts Power Rangers Co-Star Austin St. John for Selling T-Shirts With Hitler Quotes

Summary

  • Amy Jo Johnson criticized Austin St. John’s plan to sell Hitler quote t-shirts on a podcast appearance.
  • Johnson suggested that “some people should have publicists” in response to St. John’s controversial line.
  • St. John defended his decision to sell merchandise with quotes from historical “warriors” like Hitler.

They may have fought the forces of evil together on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but the Pink Ranger’s Amy Jo Johnson and the Red Ranger’s Austin St. John couldn’t be more divided regarding the latter’s decision to begin selling T-shirts featuring quotes from Adolf Hitler.

During an appearance on the Toon’d In podcast, the former Red Ranger revealed that he had plans to start a clothing line and sell t-shirts with quotes from Adolf Hitler and other ‘warriors’ on all sides of history. At one point, St. John even said, “Hitler was a demon on steroids, but he had some pretty good one-liners.” This certainly didn’t go over well with his former co-star, Johnson, who took to her X page to suggest that “some people should have publicists.”

When her followers began responding to the post and speculated what it could mean, Johnson got more specific by saying, “Rogue Red Ranger has an entire new meaning. Okay I’ll Stop now.”

Austin St. John’s Merchandise Seems Doomed to Fail

During his appearance on the podcast, which is hosted by legendary voice actor Jim Cummings, St. John went into detail about why he wanted to make and sell the controversial merch, which would also include quotes from Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee.

“I’m building a ‘Warrior’ line, where I will go back in history from pre-greek days, as far back as I can. I’m gonna have famous quotes from warriors of all ilks, including terrible ones.”

St. John went on to say, “The point is to look at our past, to leaders both good and terrible, and take from them what you can.” That being said, as of this writing, merchandise featuring any quotes from Hitler isn’t on his website, so maybe he’s already heard some of the blowback and thought better of it.

St. John and Johnson appeared together in the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series in 1993. St. John played the original Red Ranger, Jason Lee Scott, but left during the show’s second season along with Black Ranger Walter Emanuel Jones and Yellow Ranger Thuy Trang. Johnson played the original Pink Ranger Kimberly Hart on the series and maintained the role until 1995. Both have appeared in other Power Rangers projects and conventions over the years, while Johnson continued acting in series such as Felicity and Flashpoint, before stepping more into directing.
