Blood Origin Brings A Promise of War in First Trailer

Blood Origin is the upcoming spin-off prequel to The Witcher, and the new trailer and images have promised more epic fantasy drama to come.

The Witcher Season 2 has already brought the fantasy drama back to Netflix this Christmas, and as another treat they have now revealed a first look at the upcoming spin-off series Blood Origin with a trailer and new stills as well as a full synopsis and release date in 2022. With the flagship series’ Declan da Barra as showrunner, the show will have a strong continuity with The Witcher in terms of scope, scale and style which will surely help it be just as big a hit as the main show. Set 1200 years before The Witcher, the series will bring new context to world of The Witcher and flesh out the universe in new ways.

The official synopsis reads: “Every story has a beginning. Witness the untold history of the Continent with The Witcher: Blood Origin, a new prequel series set in an elven world 1200 years before the events of The Witcher. Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time – exploring the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “Conjunction of the Spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.” You can check out the trailer below, and the stills here.

Blood Origins lead characters are Eile, Fjall and Scian, and while it is not yet know what connection will bring the trio together we have already been given some details about each of the individual characters to be getting on with. Eile, played by Sophia Brown, is a former warrior who has left behind her position as the queen’s protector and her clan in order to travel the world as a singer. Fjall, played by Laurence O’ Fuarain, is another warrior who joins the quest with Eile, while Scian is an elf played by Michelle Yeoh who is looking for a sacred sword. Just like the trailer, the series of images bring a sense of impending war coming and blood will be spilt.

The Witcher very quickly became one of Netflix’s biggest original series when it arrive in 2019, and as well as two subsequent seasons being green lit very quickly, there are many other spin-offs from the flagship show for fans to look out for. While some of the recent production were put on hold for a while due to the Covid pandemic, the work to expand the franchise has not stopped, with the animated Nightmare of The Wolf being released in August, a new anime movie being put into production as well as a children’s spin off series and more.

Blood Origin is currently one of the only live-action spin-offs from the series and is being eagerly awaited by fans who have been watching Netflix’s social media channels and various events of the last few months to get any glimpse they can of the upcoming series. With the new stills there is only now the question of when the series is actually going to premiere on the platform. At the moment on that front, we currently only know that the series will arrive sometime in 2022. With The Witcher’s second season having just arrived, then it is likely to be at least the summer before we see any sign of Blood Origin.
