Be warned: Potential SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again to follow…

The latest look behind-the-scenes at the upcoming Marvel series, Daredevil: Born Again, teases the return of The Punisher. Newly emerging images and footage from the filming of the MCU show reveal a man sporting a skull-emblazoned vest and hooded sweatshirt pulling a gun and taking down what appears to be a man in a costume resembling the superhero The White Tiger.

From the footage, it is unclear whether this is actually Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) himself or simply an impostor, with rumors abound that Daredevil: Born Again will feature several Punisher copycats dispensing justice in a way that Castle does not approve of.

The footage shows this particular Punisher walking emerging from a dark alley and shooting what appears to be The White Tiger in the back of the head. Now, say what you will about Frank Castle’s methods, but he is much more likely to shoot his victims from the front.

While this may not be Bernthal’s Punisher, the actor, who has received widespread acclaim for his portrayal of the Marvel vigilante, will return in Daredevil: Born Again. The series recently underwent a major overhaul behind the scenes, with Bernthal having since revealed that he “hated what they were doing with [Daredevil] before the whole rewrite” and that he initially turned down reprising the role as “they hadn’t been getting it right.”

Is Daredevil: Born Again Based on the Mayor Fisk Comic Book Arc?

This is just the latest glimpse behind-the-scenes of Daredevil: Born Again, with prior images from filming revealing the reunion of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page, and Elden Henson’s Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, as well as new suits for both Daredevil and the supervillain Bullseye.

Plot details currently remain under wraps, but it is now hotly rumored that Daredevil: Born Again will take inspiration from the comic book arc Mayor Fisk. Running across Daredevil #595-600, the Mayor Fisk tale finds New York falling to The Kingpin as he becomes the city’s newly elected mayor. The story finds Matt Murdock working for Fisk (something that has been hinted at in earlier set images), with the Kingpin of Crime his talent for spin and false philanthropy to wage a war against costumed vigilantes.

As for the backstage drama, last October Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was reportedly left unhappy with what he’d seen from Daredevil: Born Again, ultimately deciding to let many of those involved in the creation of the show go. Daredevil: Born Again has now been rebuilt, with the show recruiting The Punisher producer Dario Scardapane and Loki directing duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.

The series will see several of the Netflix Daredevil stars return, including Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock / Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / Punisher, and Wilson Bethel as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter. New cast members include Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, Michael Gandolfini as Daniel Blade, and Sandrine Holt as Vanessa Fisk.

Daredevil: Born Again
is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2025, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
