Chris Pratt Dons Stellar Mustache as Mr. P in New Pringles Super Bowl Ad

Summary

  • Chris Pratt reveals his new mustache in a Pringles commercial for the upcoming Super Bowl.
  • Pringles likely paid a hefty sum for their Super Bowl commercial spot, with prices for a 30-second ad reaching up to $7 million.
  • Chris Pratt has several projects in the pipeline, including the animated movie Garfield, Netflix’s The Electric State, and the prequel series The Terminal List: Dark Wolf.

Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World star Chris Pratt dons a glorious mustache and becomes Mr. P in the new Pringles Super Bowl ad. Essentially telling the tale of the ad itself, the footage finds Pratt shopping at his local convenience store, where he decides to indulge in a tube of Pringles. Told by the clerk that, with his new ‘stache, he resembles the Pringles mascot, Pratt soon finds himself journeying across the Great Plains as Mr. P.

Pratt has also shared some insight into his new mustachioed look and how the ad came about while speaking with Variety. “I grew it out and shaved down the sides, and it curled up,” he says, revealing that his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger then asked if he has ever played a character with that kind of mustache: “That’s actually a good look for a character. Have you ever played a character with that type of mustache?”

“I kept it. I must have posted something on social media,” Pratt adds, which then led to comments from fans and, thus, the new Pringles ad and Mr. P were born.

Previously, Pringles had released just a teaser image that featured the famous ‘Mr. P’ logo alongside an upper lip sporting a dazzling mustache. Thanks to the recent reveal, we now know it belongs to Guardians of the Galaxy star, Chris Pratt, who also starred in a Super Bowl commercial for Michelob Ultra back in 2018. The mustache is reminiscent of another iconic character that Pratt voiced in 2023, that being everyone’s favorite plumber, Mario, from The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which went on to become the second highest-grossing film of the year, earning more than $1.3 billion dollars at the box office.

There’s no word on how much Pringles paid for its upcoming Super Bowl 58 commercial, but there’s no doubt it was a hefty sum. In 2023, a 30-second spot cost advertisers an average of $7 million dollars, which was up from 2022’s price of $6.5 million, and 2021’s cost of $5.5 million. Super Bowl commercials have become such a staple of the sporting event itself that each year a ‘Super Clio’ is given out to the best ad, which is a branch of the Clio Awards that are given out each year to honor the best in advertising. 2023’s winner was Tubi, for its 60-second spot known as ‘Rabbit Holes.’

Every year, the Super Bowl showcases the outstanding athleticism of the two best teams in the NFL. However, there are a select number of viewers that tune in not for the action, but for the iconic commercials that the televised event has become known for. This year they’ll be treated to Chris Pratt’s brand-new mustache thanks to Pringles, who previously revealed Pratt’s new look for the upcoming Big Game commercial on January 24. While Chris Pratt is currently busy providing the voice of Garfield for The Garfield Movie, which is slated for release in May 2024, it was recently announced that he’ll be returning to the role of James Reece for Prime Video’s prequel series, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf. The news came as somewhat of a surprise to viewers, who expected Pratt not to be seen again until season two, which was announced over a year ago. Now it seems as if the prequel series is taking precedence over the series’ second season.

Prime shared a teaser for The Terminal List: Dark Wolf on X (formerly Twitter), stating that production for the prequel to its hit show would begin “early this year.” The news was met with generally favorable responses from fans of the series, who at the same time questioned why the prequel is taking priority over the second season. Check out the announcement and poster for The Terminal List: Dark Wolf below, which also features Taylor Kitsch returning as Ben Edwards.

There’s no word yet on when The Terminal List: Dark Wolf will make its premiere on Prime Video, but in the meantime, fans of Chris Pratt can look forward to seeing him alongside Millie Bobby Brown in the new sci-fi adventure film from Netflix, The Electric State, which will premiere in 2024, as well as hearing his voice in The Garfield Movie, which debuts in theaters on May 24, 2024.
