Drops of God Season 2 Exclusive Clip: Big Challenge, Bigger Feelings

It’s an intense and immersive dive into the characters’ lives since we left them at the end of Drops of God Season 1. Drops of God Season 2 promises to be every bit as emotional and experientially rich as the first, potentially even more so.

Apple TV’s Drops of God Season 2

Adapted from the phenomenal, hugely popular Japanese manga, Kami no Shizuku, Apple TV’s Drops of God put an international twist on the casting and narrative, reframing the protagonists’ father as Alexandre Léger, a renowned French wine critic and enologist.

While Drops of God Season 1 focused primarily on daughter Camille Léger’s childhood trauma and the competition between her and her father’s Japanese protégé, Issei Tomine, Drops of God Season 2 examines Issei’s challenging familial relationships.

Apple TV teases that Season 2 will see Camille and Issei “thrust into their most perilous challenge yet: to uncover the origin of the world’s greatest wine, a mystery so profound that even their legendary father, Alexandre Léger, could not solve it.”

As ever, Drops of God uses wine as a through line to the characters’ deeper psychological landscape. As Issei searches for a new purpose in his life, Camille struggles against the self-destructive instinct learned — possibly inherited — from their father.

To Feel Alive

Drops of God Season 2 filmed in five different countries over its months of production.

As we learn in the clip below, Issei’s life in Japan no longer satisfies him.

Until Alexandre’s new challenge sparks new energy in him, he seeks thrills in dangerous activities like freediving. The challenge will take them from France and Japan to Spain, the Republic of Georgia, and Greece.

Camille and Issei’s relationship is still a fragile thing. They only discovered each other late in life and do not have a good understanding of how to be friends, never mind siblings.

“What begins as a pursuit of legacy, becomes a search for truth that spans continents and centuries, unearthing forgotten histories, hidden rivalries and secrets buried for generations.” – Apple TV

Keeping in mind that Alexandre skewed the first competition in Camille’s favor, it’s understandable that Issei feels robbed of something vital to his sense of identity.

Honestly, Camille shouldn’t feel any guilt for benefitting from their father’s unfair play, and her desire to ignore the new challenge is equally understandable. But Issei’s despair is a real and sisterly instincts kick in.

As the search pushes them to the edges of the world, and to the darkest corners of themselves — Camille and Issei must decide how much they are willing to sacrifice. The answer could shatter their bond as siblings… or destroy them both. – Apple TV

On the Drops of God Season 2 premiere, “The Present,” Issei returns to France to find Camille thriving in her ambitious vision for Chassangre.

In the midst of a celebration, the spectre of their father looms in the form of the new challenge.

As the two siblings approach the mystery from their very different perspectives, Drops of God Season 2 will enchant and inspire viewers once again.
