Two years after the For All Mankind Season 4 finale, Apple TV is ready to usher us into the next stage of its ingenious alternate-history saga.
The sci-fi powerhouse released a teaser for the upcoming season, and there is plenty to be excited about.
As with every season of the show, things have changed as the space program makes huge strides, but at its core, remain the humans who have made the impossible happen.

The teaser hints at massive shifts in the status quo and introduces the next Baldwin to carry the torch: Alex Poletov Baldwin.
Kelly Baldwin and Alexei Poletov’s son is all grown up, and he has clearly inherited his parents’ and grandparents’ obsession with spacefaring.
He is an astronaut, and if Ed’s words are to be believed, he’s destined for greatness.
“Everything that’s happened has led to this moment. You’re gonna do things that people can’t even fathom,” Ed says in the video. “It’s on you to make the next move.”

Season footage shows The Summer I Turned Pretty star Sean Kaufman trading romance drama for science fiction as he portrays the older version of Alex.
Still, knowing the complicated circumstances behind his birth and the fact that he’s Ed’s grandson, there must be a story there.
Did he become an astronaut to feel closer to his father, make his grandfather happy, or is that what he wants?
We also catch a glimpse of the colony, and much progress has been made since For All Mankind Season 4 — it looks like a small city.
Meanwhile, the tech has improved so much that Martians can now feel the thrill of riding a motorcycle — or Mars’ version of one — and Alex seems to love it.

The Conflict in For All Mankind Season 5
However, this existence is not without friction, as the official season description below from Apple TV teases.
“Season 5 of For All Mankind picks up in the years since the Goldilocks asteroid heist.
“Happy Valley has grown into a thriving colony with thousands of residents and a base for new missions that will take us even further into the solar system.
“But with the nations of Earth now demanding law and order on the Red Planet, friction continues to build between the people who live on Mars and their former home,” it reads.
It will be interesting to see how Earth’s geopolitical baggage has traveled across the stars.
If we can’t let those on different continents enjoy their own natural resources, why would we extend that courtesy to other planets?

While a full-scale interplanetary war would be a grim verdict for our species, seeing how that unfolds through the lens of this show would be television gold.
Joel Kinnaman returns as the headstrong Ed Baldwin, who remains unbowed by age.
He is joined by returning stars Toby Kebbell, Edi Gathegi, Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña, and Wrenn Schmidt.
The ensemble also expands with new additions Mireille Enos, Costa Ronin, Ruby Cruz, and Ines Asserson.
