iCarly Revival Trailer Arrives Ahead of Paramount+ Premiere

Ahead of its premiere on Paramount+ later this month, the official trailer has just been released for the series revival of iCarly. Airing on Nickelodeon for six seasons between 2007 and 2012, iCarly was one of the most popular teen sitcoms of its era, pulling in millions of viewers during its run on cable. Nearly ten years later, the powers that be at Paramount+ are bringing back Miranda Cosgrove as Carly Shay with the internet celebrity moving on from high school and now navigating through life in her mid-20s. You can watch the trailer below.

“Welcome to the new iCarly,” Cosgrove’s Carly says in a live stream at the start of the trailer. It’s quickly revealed that Carly, who was famous for her highly successful web show in the original series, has chosen to launch a more modern incarnation of iCarly. Her brother Spencer and friend Freddie are there to volunteer their assistance, just as they had helped Carly with the show when she was a teenager. Everyone is a little older, but it’s also just as clear that some things never change.

Along with Miranda Cosgrove, the new iCarly also brings back Jerry Trainor as Carly’s brother Spencer and Nathan Kress as her close pal Freddie. The new cast also introduces Laci Mosley as Harper and Jaidyn Triplett as Millicent, who will serve as main cast members with the returning stars from the Nickelodeon series. Mary Scheer also returns as Freddie’s mom, and guest stars will include Reed Alexander and Danielle Morrow.

Fans of the original series will certainly notice the absence of Sam Puckett, Carly’s best friend and iCarly co-star in the Nickelodeon series. This is likely because Sam actress Jennette McCurdy has since retired from acting. Speaking on why she wasn’t interested in revisiting the roles she formerly played as a child star, McCurdy also suggested that she was embarrassed by her involvement with the Nickelodeon show.

“I’m so ashamed of the parts I’ve done in the past,” Jennette McCurdy told Anna Faris on the Empty Inside podcast. “I resent my career in a lot of ways. I feel so unfulfilled by the roles that I played and felt like it was the most cheesy, embarrassing… My friends at 15, they’re not like, ‘Oh, cool, you’re on this Nickelodeon show.’ It was embarrassing.”

Perhaps if the show is successful enough to warrant additional seasons, there’s always the chance McCurdy could change her mind, though I wouldn’t bet on it. In any case, it seems probable that Sam will at least be mentioned at some point, given her prominence in the original show.

iCarly will debut its first three episodes on Thursday, June 17, exclusively on Paramount+. The remaining ten episodes will then be released weekly on the streaming service untilt he end of the season. Following its premiere in the U.S. and Canada this month, the series will premiere in Latin America, the Nordics, and Australia this summer. The new trailer for the series exclusively premiered at Entertainment Weekly and can be watched at the official YouTube channel for Paramount+.
