Interview with the Vampire is Making a Big Mistake With the Title Rebrand

Interview with the Vampire is Making a Big Mistake With the Title Rebrand

Even though we’re far from Halloween, AMC has teased that Interview with the Vampire Season 3 will air in early 2026, bringing a little spookiness to the spring.

But here’s the catch – it’s going to be under a new name: The Vampire Lestat.

This name is the same as that of the second book in the original series installment on which the series is based.

However, this AMC series’ rebrand is a bad idea for several reasons, beyond the confusion about how to refer to the show correctly.

Interview with the Vampire may leave viewers with a lot of questions, but this new name might be the most baffling one of all.

Everything’s Coming Up Lestat!

There’s no denying that Lestat de Lioncourt is one of the most charming characters on the show.

After all, Sam Reid absolutely crushes it in this role and helps us understand why Louis fell head over heels in love with this French vampire.

The surprising return of Lestat in Interview with the Vampire Season 2 Episode 7 was one of the most unexpected twists on the show.

However, all the other vampires also deserve their flowers, particularly since the show is mainly told through the perspective of Louis and Armand.

While the name The Vampire Lestat suggests we’ll get more of Lestat’s perspective, it’s worrisome that it means the show will lose focus on Louis and Armand.

In fact, the teaser AMC released for Season 3 already doesn’t feature many scenes with Armand.

I might be biased because I’m a big fan of Armand, but I also feel like the first two seasons have built up his character so much that it might be a waste to sideline him in this upcoming season.

Additionally, Interview with the Vampire has primarily incorporated discussions about race and history into the stories.

And while Lestat is a morally grey and interesting character, the focus on him might distract from the show’s engagement with what it means to be both a vampire and a person of color navigating historical contexts.

It’s still too early to make judgments about whether this is the case or not – we’ll just have to trust in the writers of this beloved show!

Why Rebrand Now?

Another confusing aspect of the series’ new name is that it has been ongoing since 2022.

Given that it has been around for so many years, the move to change the title from Interview with the Vampire to The Vampire Lestat will confuse new viewers, who might assume this is a spinoff.

Dedicated fans will recognize that this rebrand is mainly in name only, but this decision could alienate many potential new viewers.

Plus, the teaser implies that there’ll be a glamorous, rock-star-like angle about Lestat’s life, which is certainly a large change from the show’s usual darker aesthetics.

The visual and story shift might also change the way the show is perceived, with viewers wishing that The Vampire Lestat truly was a spinoff instead.

At the same time, the show could be taking big swings, which is always welcome this far into its run.

But only time will tell if renaming Interview with the Vampire did more good than harm to the future of this series.
