Jack Ryan Renewed for Season 4 at Amazon

Amazon has ordered up another season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and with the announcement comes a newcomer to the cast. The popular action drama series, which stars John Krasinski in the lead role, has just officially been renewed for season 4 ahead of the season 3 premiere. It’s also been reported that Ant-Man star Michael Peña will join the cast for season 4, and while he’s set to appear in multiple episodes, character details haven’t been revealed.

As of this time, a premiere date still hasn’t been set for season 3 of Jack Ryan. We do know that the season has completed production and it would seem that an announcement should be imminent. We’re coming up on two years since season 2 premiered on Oct. 31, 2019, so the wait fans have been enduring has been lengthy. The good news is that the new season will come with the assurance that it will be followed by at least one more season after that.

In season 3, per Variety, Jack “ison the run and in a race against time. He is wrongly implicated in a larger conspiracy and suddenly finds himself a fugitive out in the cold. Now, wanted by both the CIA and an international rogue faction that he has uncovered, Jack is forced underground, crisscrossing Europe, trying to stay alive and prevent a massive global conflict.”

While news of Michael Peña joining the cast is new, it has been reported previously that Betty Gabriel (Defending Jacob) will appear in season 3 as Chief of Station Elizabeth Wright. The cast also includes Wendell Pierce as James Greer and Michael Kelly as Mike November. Jack Ryan is executive produced by Andrew Form, Allyson Seeger, Vaul Wilmott, John Krasinski, Brad Fuller, and Michael Bay. Tom Clancy and Skydance TV’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Bill Bost executive produce season 3 with Mace Neufeld and Calrton Cuse.

Vaun Wilmott served as the showrunner for Jack Ryan’s third season, taking the reins from Paul Scheuring who briefly held the job for the first couple of months of production. Series co-creator Carlton Cuse had served as showrunner for the first two seasons, and when he stepped down, the gig went to David Scarpa briefly before going to Scheuring. The show is a co-production between Amazon, Paramount Television Studios, and Skydance Television.

“I think the franchise has enormous legs,” Carlton Cuse previously said of how long the show could go, per IndieWire. “There will be a lot of other chapters to Jack Ryan. I think that it’s hard to get too far in front of Jack Ryan because I think the essence of the show is to tell these geopolitical thrillers of the moment. It’s not super productive, I think, to be too anticipatory. I think we were nervous as it was. We were writing this terrorist story three and a half years ago, and the world has changed substantially since then. So it’s good to wait until that season is imminent before figuring out what the best story is.”

Jack Ryan doesn’t yet have a premiere date for season 3, but let’s hope that’s coming. For now, you can watch the first two seasons of the hit series on Amazon Prime Video. News of the season 4 renewal comes to us from Variety.
