John Cena Uses WWE Logic When Wearing Peacemaker Costumes to Interviews

John Cena turned up to promotional interviews for Peacemaker in costume, and he recently revealed exactly why.

John Cena made quite an impact in Peacemaker, the James Gunn created spin-off show from The Suicide Squad, and he made sure that his interviews promoting the series were just as colorful as the show itself by turning up in his Peacemaker costume. Now Cena has revealed that his motivation in dressing up for the occasion was simply to make sure that people came to recognize the character’s appearance, just like he used to in his wrestling days.

Talking to People, Cena spoke at length about making sure he got into his character’s attire for his interviews to get people talking about the show and asking questions. While he ended up not being sure how successful the gimmick was, there was undoubtedly already enough interest in The Suicide Squad out there for the series to be a huge hit. Cena explained:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“With The Suicide Squad, there were so many characters and so many personalities. I just wanted to try to familiarize the audience with my little piece, pun intended. It’s very similar to the approach that I use with the WWE when I was performing full-time there. I would be in all interviews in the John Cena outfit of a ball cap, T-shirt, shorts and wristbands. People began to associate that character and become familiar with that character. That’s just the same approach I used in Peacemaker. A lot of people may shy away from that approach because it doesn’t … it’s not indicative of who they genuinely are, and it’s not who I am. That’s Peacemaker. But I wanted the audience to be familiar with Peacemaker.”

The Success of Peacemaker Has Paved The Way for James Gunn to Be The New Zack Snyder At Warner Bros

NBC

When Zack Snyder directed Man of Steel, it was set to be the beginning of the DCEU, and the director had a specific idea of where he wanted to take the franchise. However, due to certain circumstances, he was never able to complete that vision fully. James Gunn didn’t really come into the DC world with a big plan of a sprawling universe, but he has a lot of ideas and following the success of The Suicide Squad and now Peacemaker, he could have a big future with the franchise.

Having already been given the go-ahead for Peacemaker’s second season, along with another yet-to-be-revealed Suicide Squad spin-off, there is no doubt that if he wants it, then Warner Bros. is giving him the keys to the kingdom. Gunn has already said that he wants to spend the next year at least concentrating on TV work, so it is certainly possible that a third Suicide Squad spin-off could come and for fans of the many colorful characters, even that would not be enough. For now though, we can enjoy the crazy series that was Peacemaker season one streaming in its entirety on HBO Max, and look forward to what comes next from the mind of Gunn into the world of the DCEU.
