Jon Favreau Teases Redemption for The Mandalorian in Season 3

The Mandalorian will be back for a third season next year, and there is a chance Pedro Pascal’s hero could finally have a shot at redemption.

The Mandalorian season 3 is coming to Disney+ next year, and with the characters of Din Djarin and Grogu being, for many, the saving grace of The Book of Boba Fett, fans cannot wait for Pedro Pascal’s return. Fans have had an extended wait for the third season of the popular Star Wars show, with it being almost two years since the finale of the last season, but work has been ongoing to make the next season continue the strong performance, and according to executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni it could give Din Djarin a possible redemption.

The Mandalorian recently lost its title of having the highest viewed debut on Disney+ to Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it still stands above all other original series for overall viewing figures and has very rarely put a foot wrong in anything it has done. The series has managed to develop its own story, while also weaving in aspects of the original Star Wars movies, including an appearance by Luke Skywalker. When discussing where the series could be heading next, Favreau told Dagobah Dispatch Podcast:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“Well, we established in The Book of Boba Fett that there was an opportunity for The Mandalorian to be redeemed because he had transgressed against the Creed by removing his helmet, and among his group of Mandalorians, that is something that’s not permitted. Now, we know that there are other groups of Mandalorians where they have different sets of rules. In The Clone Wars, we saw with Dave and also with the character that I voiced that the Mandalorians are very different there. And so these different groups are coming together and we’re going to figure out… the Nexus point for all of those communities, of course, is their homeworld from which they’re exiled, which is Mandalore.”

Pedro Pascal spoke recently to Total Film about where Din Djarin is going to be heading in the new season. The character has undergone quite a lot of change over the last two seasons, and that is set to continue in season 3. Pascal explained:

“If he is stepping into a leadership position, he’s reluctant to do so. I don’t think that there’s anything more interesting than a character being forced into discovering what they’re capable of, and who they are. That part has been really, really fun. Also, from my point of view, there’s so many searchable ways to find the tonality of that. I just tried to achieve the subtleties of that kind of character development.”

Although there has not been an exact date set for the return of The Mandalorian, it is currently scheduled to air sometime in February 2023, which is two months after its usual December slot. However, fans shouldn’t have to wait too long after that for the fourth season, which has already moved into development. Seasons 1 & 2 of The Mandalorian, and The Book of Boba Fett are available now on Disney+.
