One Stranger Things star is about to flip things upside down (again) as they have officially lined up their next project on Netflix — and it is totally different from anything they have done before. The fifth and final season of the Duffer Brothers’ critically acclaimed sci-fi series will premiere in two parts later this year, marking the end of an era for the cast as they say goodbye to their beloved roles after nearly a decade on the show. Many of them will step into unfamiliar territory, exploring new projects and diversifying their on-screen presence.
Before Millie Bobby Brown takes her final bow as Eleven, she will have entered production on an entirely new project, titled Just Picture It. The feature film is set up at Netflix, where Brown is a mainstay, but it will mark a career-first for the actress, as she breaks free of the sci-fi genre to star in and produce her first ever romantic comedy. She will take the lead alongside Gabriel LaBelle, who is best known for his roles in Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical film The Fabelmans and Jason Reitman’s biographical comedy-drama Saturday Night.

Just Picture It will be directed by Lee Toland Krieger (Dead Boy Detectives) from a script written by Jesse Lasky (Code Black), which tells the story of two college students who are surprised when their phones glitch and start showing snapshots 10 years in the future — featuring them as a happily married couple with kids, even though they have yet to meet each other. Filming is reportedly scheduled to commence on Sept. 8, 2025, with the intention of wrapping up production on Oct. 29, 2025. No release date has been announced as of now.
Brown gained widespread recognition for her enduring role as Eleven on Stranger Things, which led to her becoming one of Netflix’s most frequent collaborators. She worked on the Sherlock Holmes spinoff Enola Holmes that recently wrapped production on its third installment. She also produced and starred in the dark fantasy film Damsel last year, which topped the charts and achieved great viewership despite mixed reviews. Her future plans with the streamer include adapting her debut novel Nineteen Steps into a feature film.

The last Netflix feature Brown starred in proved polarizing with critics and audiences. The Electric State drew viewers in with its star-studded cast, visual spectacle, and creative team, led by Marvel filmmaking duo Anthony and Joe Russo at the helm. It certainly had all the makings of a great film, but it ended up creating a drastic divide between critics and audiences – earning a meager 14% critic score against a solid 68% audience rating – with its shortcomings being chalked up to a weak story, slow pacing, and overall lack of substance.
On paper, The Electric State was a safe bet for the Stranger Things alum, given that she was working in the sci-fi wheelhouse again, so it will be interesting to see how she fares in a different genre. Just Picture It is a family affair for Brown as she serves as a producer on the film alongside her father, Robert Brown, and her husband, Jake Bongiovi, in addition to Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Alyssa Altman, and Isobel Roberts, with David Kern onboard as an executive producer. The team are reportedly scheduled to start filming the rom-com in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sept. 8, 2025, with the intention of wrapping production on Oct. 29, 2025.
