To crack the code, they’ll need to get creative. Netflix has been the place to be for action lately, with the likes of Rebel Ridge, The Shadow Strays, Carry-On, Havoc, Exterritorial, Last Bullet, and more giving genre fans all the gunplay and explosions they could ever possibly ask for. But one of the streamer’s action outings has largely flown under the radar. Thankfully, that may all be about to change now that the series has debuted its gripping new season.
First debuting back in 2023, Criminal Code is just the action thriller cop drama you’ve been looking for, with the show having now unleashed its explosive second season on streaming. Created by Heitor Dhalia, Bernardo Barcellos, and Leonardo Levis, Criminal Code finds the Federal Police on an impossible mission – and they will do everything to accomplish it. Inspired by real-life crimes, the action series tells the surprising story of federal police officers who use DNA traces to dismantle the world’s largest bank robbery gang at the border of Brazil with Paraguay.

Get Bingeing, as ‘Criminal Code’ Season 2 Is Now Streaming on Netflix

While Criminal Code remains one of the more underrated action projects available on Netflix, Season 1 did find some popularity at the time. According to the streamer, the first season took the #1 spot in Netflix’s top 10 Non-English Shows globally, as well as racking up more than six million views.
Criminal Code has not yet accrued enough reviews to give it a critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but it does boast a hugely promising 95% from audiences on the Popcornmeter. The reviews that have since emerged for Criminal Code Season 2 largely heap praise on the series, calling it an improvement on its predecessor, despite its flaws.
The Review Geek’s Greg Wheeler said of the show’s return, “Criminal Code is back and this underrated Brazil series brings the same high-octane drama that made the first season such a pulsating watch.” While Jonathon Wilson of Ready Steady Cut called the series “exceedingly well made and has a distinct vibe and identity,” though took issue with the widening scope. Regardless, they’re still looking forward to Season 3, adding, “If Season 3 arrives – and, to be clear, I not only think it will but would be pleased to see it – then it needs to become narrower, not wider; it needs to hone in on its most essential ideas and really interrogate them instead of presenting them without comment.”
