Netflix’s Black Doves is officially returning for Season 2, with a whole new cast joining the popular spy thriller show. Starring Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw, the series was a hit for the streamer in 2024, and cameras are now rolling on the highly anticipated second season.
It has been announced that Black Doves Season 2 has officially begun production, and the series has added several key new cast members, including Neve Campbell (Scream), Ambika Mod (One Day), Babou Ceesay (Alien: Earth), Sam Riley (Firebrand), Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049), Goran Kostic (Ant-Man and The Wasp), and Samuel Barnett (Lee). The latest season will follow the events of the previous finale, with Knightley’s Helen doubling down on the “treacherous line” between her line of work and personal relationships. Helen (Keira Knightley) is still betraying her nation’s secrets to the covert organisation she serves: the Black Doves. But after the misadventures of last Christmas, and with her husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan), preparing to become Prime Minister, she is walking a more treacherous line than ever.
Of course, Black Doves would not be the same without its main cast, and Season 2 will officially feature the return of Sarah Lancashire, Andrew Buchan, Kathryn Hunter, Ella Lily Hyland, Gabrielle Creevy, Agnes O’Casey, and Molly Chesworth. Series creator Joe Barton is back in the driver’s seat as writer and executive producer, while Julian Farino (Amadeus) and Kieron Hawkes (Red Eye) form part of the director crew. In an official statement celebrating the start of production, Barton teased that “Downing Street will never be the same again” when viewers are pulled back into the world of murderous espionage.
“I couldn’t be more excited to delve back into the world of our murderous little spy family. To have so many of our amazing cast returning and also being able to add some of my absolute favourite actors into the mix is such a great joy. Downing Street will never be the same again…”

Black Doves Season 2 will pick up where the first season left off, as Helen (Keira Knightley) and her husband, Wallace (Andrew Buchan), stick together as the latter looks to become the next Prime Minister. Helen’s handler, Mrs. Reed (Sarah Lancashire), will play a key role in the central premise, as a “ruthless plot” threatens her position in the Black Doves. Netflix has provided a more thorough plot description, which confirms that Helen and Sam (Ben Whishaw) will join forces once again on a brand-new mission.
