Picard Season 2 Trailer Reveals First Look at Q’s Return

A new teaser trailer has been released for the second season of Star Trek: Picard. The wait has been a long time coming for fans, as the first season premiered on Paramount+ back in 2020 when it was still called CBS All Access. New episodes won’t be hitting the platform until next year, but to help hold fans over, Paramount+ has dropped some new footage of the upcoming season. Teasing some time travel and alternate reality storylines along with the return of John de Lancie as Q, there’s a lot to unpack in the new video, which you can take a look at below.

We knew Q would be returning in season 2 of this Star Trek series, and it’s nice to get a look at the character ahead of the show’s premiere next year. Also shown in the teaser is the return of Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine, though she looks to be an alternate version of the character as she doesn’t have her Borg implants. Oddly enough, noticing herself in the mirror, Seven looks just as surprised to see what’s now missing. Not much else is given in the footage, so we’ll have to wait a while longer for an explanation.

Another character who’s been strongly teased to appear in the second season of Picard is Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan. Her reunion with Picard has been teased by both Goldberg and Patrick Stewart, though it hasn’t been officially confirmed by Paramount+. The second season will also star Picard cast members Stewart, Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Orla Brady, and Brent Spiner. Previously, Spiner suggested we’ve seen the last of him as Data, but that he was still open to returning as Altan Inigo Soong.

“Absolutely,” Spiner said of the possibility of reprising the role of Soong, per Syfy Wire. “I love working with all of the people on the show. The new cast is fantastic. Obviously, to still be working with Patrick is a dream. Now there’s a character that could conceivably go on and continue, so of course I’d love to.”

Not everyone who wanted to be a part of the second season had the opportunity. Michael Dorn has been very vocal about his desire to reprise the role of Worf for a new Star Trek movie or series, but can’t seem to get the call back from Starfleet. Beverly Crusher actress Gates McFadden has slo said she won’t be appearing in season 2, and that the decision left her feeling saddened.

“I’m not in the second season,” Gates told TrekMovie.com. “I’m sad that I’m not. Things have changed a lot on different levels. So I have no idea at this point. I’m disappointed because it would have been so much fun to just work with those people. But we’ll see. I have no idea. I wish I could tell you.”

CBS Studios produces Star Trek: Picard in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. For the second season, Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Terry Matalas, Michael Chabon, Doug Aarniokoski, Dylan Massin, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth will executive produce. Aaron Baiers of Secret Hideout will co-executive produce with Kirsten Beyer. Goldsman and Matalas are serving as the second season’s co-showrunners.

An official premiere date hasn’t yet been set for Star Trek: Picard season 2, but the new episodes will arrive on Paramount+ sometime in 2022. Meanwhile, the first season in its entirety can currently be streamed on the platform.
