Power Book IV: Force Truth: No One Is Worthy Enough To Take Out Tommy Egan

Power Book IV: Force Truth: No One Is Worthy Enough To Take Out Tommy Egan

If there’s one person you’d think would be above death in the Power Universe, it would be Tommy Egan.

He and Ghost were the original originals, and yes, Ghost did bite the bullet, but his story always led him to a place where he couldn’t escape the life he chose.

Could you say the same for Tommy? Maybe. But Power Book IV: Force has made a case that if there’s anyone in this universe who should be deemed untouchable, it’s Tommy.

Though who’s to say that will be the case?

Power Book IV: Force Season 3 has been on fire as it barrels into the home stretch, and while it’s clearly barreling towards an endpoint, it doesn’t necessarily feel like that endpoint will be Tommy’s death.

You can never say never with Power, and yes, I know there are rumblings about the Tommy and Tariq spinoff, which should signal that there is no way Tommy leaves the final season in a body bag.

Still, with nothing confirmed, it’s safe to be a little apprehensive about what the final hour could bring.

War is always brewing on Power, and after the events of Power Book IV: Force Season 3 Episode 9, there may not be a full-scale Chicago war, but there is still revenge on a lot of people’s minds.

Tommy killing Diamond, albeit accidentally, will only spur on Jenard’s hatred more, and there’s zero chance the hour ends without the two of them facing off for the final time.

But it’s safe to assume only one man leaves that confrontation alive. So who?

The idea of Tommy dying feels surreal because of how many times we’ve seen him cheat death in the past.

He’s just not someone who slips up enough to get himself killed, and if it were to happen here, it would have to be primarily due to luck, because it’s hard to imagine anyone in Chicago outsmarting him.

And I’ll take it even a step further; no one in Chicago should have the privilege of being the one to take down Tommy Egan.

Power Force has had some good characters, and memorable ones, but no one has risen to the ranks of Ghost, Kanan, or hell, Tariq, in terms of worthiness to stand toe-to-toe with Tommy and come out the victor.

Tommy’s got many enemies in Chicago, with Jenard currently at the top of the list, but how disappointing would it be for Tommy to fall to Jenard Sampson after everything he’s been through?

When Jenard wants to be on his game, he can be. But he’s ego-driven, and he’s often let his personal feelings overshadow business decisions.

Even with CBI now firmly in his grasp, does anyone believe this current version of Jenard will put them in a position to run all of Chicago?

Jenard isn’t the only one with a Tommy vendetta, as Vic is still out there in the wind, and while he fled from Chicago with his tail between his legs, I would not be surprised if the last surviving Flynn comes back to confront Tommy again.

If Jenard were undeserving of killing Tommy, then Vic would be on a whole other level of undeserving.

Vic’s a follower, and he’s a snitch, which are the very antithesis of everything Tommy stands for.

Tommy may have toyed with Vic a little too long, but letting Vic boast that he killed Tommy Egan would get the best eyeroll from me.

He’s done nothing throughout the course of the series to prove himself as worthy enough to go toe-to-toe with Tommy in a meaningful way.

And that’s the whole problem with the idea of Tommy Egan dying at the end of Power Book IV: Force: no one has earned it. Not Jenard, not Vic, not Bobby, not any cartel member with an ax to grind.

Tommy isn’t just any player in the Power Universe; he’s one of its founding members. And while he’s come up against some hefty foes in Chicago, they’ve all felt like obstacles he would eventually get by, not legitimate equals to him.

If the show decided that Tommy had to die, then it would have to be a moment that felt earned and inevitable. But has Force been leading to that?

On the contrary, I’d say they’ve been consistently showing us a Tommy who can outmaneuver anyone and any chaos, and never fall victim to it.

Killing Tommy would feel more like a product of the story ending than of where the story should go, because I’d argue that Tommy has never been stronger.

In a universe built on betrayal, bloodshed, ambition, and yes, power, some characters just are not meant to be conquered.

Instead, they’re meant to outlive and outwit every single person who thought they had the right to end them.

And right now? Well, there is not a single soul in Chicago who deserves to wear the badge that says they killed Tommy Egan.

With only one hour left, how do you see the Power Force world wrapping things up?
