Showtime Releases New Teaser Trailer For Their The Man Who Fell To Earth Series

Chiwetel Ejiofor stars in the Showtime series The Man Who Fell to Earth and you can watch a teaser trailer now.

Showtime

Showtime has just released the first teaser trailer for their sci-fi series The Man Who Fell to Earth, which stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Naomie Harris. Although the trailer is brief it does give us a look at Ejiofor, who plays Faraday, an alien attempting to understand his purpose after landing on Earth. Harris plays Justin Falls, a human that makes contact with Faraday and tries to help him live up to whatever he has been sent to do. Let’s take a look at the new trailer below:

The trailer being only less than a minute long does give a nice sneak peek into the new modern version of the story. The cast also includes some familiar faces like Jimmi Simpson (Westworld), Clarke Peters (Da 5 Bloods), and Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2). Josh Herdman (Goyle from Harry Potter) and Kate Mulgrew (Orange Is the New Black).

What Is the Premise Behind The Man Who Fell to Earth?

British Lion Films

The series is an adaptation of the 1963 book written by Walter Tevis. The novel was previously made into a very popular film in 1976, which starred the space oddity himself David Bowie and Rip Torn. David Bowie playing the alien that comes to earth and learning to be more human could not have been a more perfect role. The film was directed by British filmmaker Nicolas Roeg and has since become a huge cult classic. It also inspired one of David Bowie final projects,“ Lazarus” which was based on and inspired by The Man Who Fell To Earth. Micheal C. Hall (Dexter) took on the lead role in this play. David Bowie was pretty hands-on in the making of this project before he passed away.

The show seems to be remaining faithful to the plot, however. It is probably going to stay truer to the book since the length of a TV series allows for more time and details to be explained. Alex Kurtzman serves as one of the showrunners for the series. Kurtzman created Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for CBS All Access, and has also written films like The Mummy and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Kurtzman will also direct the pilot, titled “Hallo, Spaceboy.” Jenny Lumet, a longtime collaborator of Kurtzman and writer of Rachel Getting Married, will also serve as one of the showrunners. The series was originally developed by CBS All Access in August 2019, but once the service changed and became Paramount+, it was announced the series would become exclusive to Showtime. Right now the series is set for a spring debut with the first season being slated for ten episodes. We don’t have an official release date just yet, but we do know it is coming out this year.

What do you think of the new teaser trailer? WIll it hold up to the original movie? As always we will keep you up to date on all the latest news and trailers so continue to follow MovieWeb.
