What do you get when you combine a wedding, some mercenaries, and a world-class secret agent into a 105-minute film? If your director Simon West, you get an absolutely horrendous flick. That’s according to critics over on Rotten Tomatoes, at least, who’ve given Bride Hard just a 10% rating, with some going so far as to call it the “worst movie of the year.” Ouch!
West, of course, is the director behind such hits as Nicolas Cage’s Con Air and The Expendables 2, so he definitely knows how to make a good action movie. Unfortunately, comedy just isn’t his forte, as critic Andrew Parker from The Gate notes in his review that Bride Hard is “a near perfect zero of a film,” adding that it’s “devoid of anything approaching genuine laughs, mirth, suspense, or decent action.” Ben Sherlock from Screen Rant also had harsh words for West’s latest, saying:
“Bride Hard is an uninspired action comedy with corny dialogue, predictable plotting, and very few laughs, and might just be the worst movie of 2025.”

There have been so many great action comedies over the years that plenty of them have been forgotten.
Starring Rebel Wilson as secret-agent Sam, what should have been a weekend of reconnecting with her childhood best friend (Anna Camp) to celebrate her wedding turns into a five-star death trap when armed mercenaries crash the big day. Sam’s the only one who can save the bride, so she takes on the ultimate wedding crashers, realizing along the way that sometimes the toughest mission isn’t taking down the bad guys, but showing up for the people who matter.
Sadly, the whole concept of Bride Hard falls flat on its face. As Isabella Soares from Collider says that “West’s uninspired and, quite frankly, unfunny bridal romp isn’t the June wedding you’d hope to attend in even the bleakest of days.” Critic Avi Offer was another who disliked the movie, calling it “a lazy, witless and painfully unfunny misfire that falls flat as a comedy, an action thriller and even as mindless entertainment.”
‘Bride Hard’ Is a “Waste of Time and Talent”

Also starring the likes of Anna Chlumsky, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Stephen Dorff, and Justin Hartley, Bride Hard is unfortunately even worse than West’s previous attempt to blend action and comedy, Old Guy. The 2024 movie holds a 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, which isn’t saying a whole lot, but at least it appears to have more redeeming qualities than his latest, which Angie Han from The Hollywood Reporter calls “a tedious use of 105 minutes that’s short on laughs, light on thrills and devoid of heart.” If you think it can’t get much worse, it does, as Manuel São Bento from FandomWire adds:
“Bride Hard is a waste of time and talent. With a disastrous script, uninspired performances (save for rare exceptions), and direction devoid of energy, the movie fails in nearly every fundamental area.”
In all likelihood, Bride Hard isn’t going to fare very well at the box office this weekend, as it’s up against some stiff competition, including the release of 28 Years Later and Pixar’s Elio, and holdover How to Train Your Dragon. That being said, if you’re looking for a cure to your narcolepsy, Bride Hard might just be the movie for you when it opens nationwide tomorrow, June 20, from Magenta Light Studios.
