The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Faces Renewal Questions — and the Case for Ending It Is Hard to Ignore

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Faces Renewal Questions — and the Case for Ending It Is Hard to Ignore

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has long been the most lavish entry in Bravo’s long-in-the-tooth reality franchise.

With sweeping mansions, wealthy cast members, and swanky parties, it was a massive success story for well over a decade.

I was so invested in everything to do with the show in its initial form, back when Lisa Vanderpump, Camille Grammer, and Adrienne Maloof were all a part of the glitz and glamor.

At the time, it felt like an exclusive look into the lives of the rich and famous, featuring a group of women with distinct personalities.

It was must-watch reality TV for me because it was sheer escapism.

But now? The numbers are down, the storylines feel repetitive, and it often feels like producers are just circling the same dynamics rather than moving things forward.

I haven’t even finished the last three seasons. I’ve watched the first batch of episodes each year until I eventually get bored.

(Nicole Weingart/Bravo)

I still tune into the reunions, though. Those three-part episodes are usually where anything actually happens, and they tend to sum up the only moments people are still talking about anyway.

That’s why it’s hard not to notice that people are now talking about The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for all the wrong reasons.

Bravo Hasn’t Renewed The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

When Bravo rolled out renewals for most of its lineup this week, Beverly Hills stood out as missing from the list.

Even The Real Housewives of Rhode Island got renewed, which makes it harder to argue that Bravo is just waiting on more data or taking a slower approach with Beverly Hills.

(Griffin Nagel/Bravo)

Had The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills not been saddled with such a negative reaction from viewers lately, it probably would have been renewed already.

Instead, the season opened with the same familiar friction, especially between Kyle Richards and Dorit Kemsley, a storyline that should have wrapped up years ago.

What used to work about that dynamic was that it felt natural and reactive. Now it feels like something the show keeps returning to because it doesn’t know what else to do.

I was cautiously optimistic about Amanda Frances coming in as a disruptor because it at least felt like an attempt to shake up the formula.

(Griffin Nagel/Bravo)

Amanda wasn’t as wealthy as some of the women, but she was far more self-made than any of them gave her credit for.

But instead of shifting the energy, the same thing happened that always happens on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills: the group circled the wagons, and the newcomer became the target.

It felt like the show knew it needed change, but kept falling back into the same patterns anyway.

I didn’t love Amanda, but I respected that she wasn’t afraid to go against the grain. It takes a lot to join this show when it’s been so widely reported that the longer-running cast members tend to gang up on the new blood.

(Griffin Nagel/Bravo)

I never thought the show would be in a position to miss out on a renewal because of its notoriety, but here we are.

We already know some of the cast will appear in upcoming Bravo projects, including Kyle Richards popping up in The Real Housewives: Roaring 20th, the crossover special bringing together franchise alums for a road-trip-style series.

More recently, rumors have surfaced that Kyle may have filmed something for the summer series that feels like a goodbye to the franchise.

Saying farewell during a 20th anniversary mash-up series wouldn’t be the worst idea.

(Griffin Nagel/Bravo)

If that turns out to be the case, it would at least feel like a turning point. But even if it isn’t, the bigger question still hangs over the show: What does The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills actually look like if it keeps going in its current form?

The reality is that The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills hasn’t really evolved with its audience.

Is the Series a Relic of the Past?

Viewers are much more aware now of how these shows are constructed, and the old formula of manufactured friendships and recycled feuds doesn’t land the same way it used to.

There are still a few cast members who generate conversation, but turnover has been constant over the past few years, with new additions rarely sticking around long enough to make a meaningful impact.

(Bravo/Screenshot)

That says less about individual casting choices and more about the show’s structure.

When you look at Bravo’s lineup as a whole, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills just doesn’t fit in as comfortably as it once did.

Newer entries in the franchise are simply better right now. Heck, even The Real Housewives of Orange County feels more energized these days.

Then there’s the fact that Bravo has other reality series that feel far more alive creatively.

(Bravo/Screenshot)

Below Deck Down Under, Summer House, and Southern Hospitality are all more willing to shift, adapt, and evolve instead of leaning on the same cycles year after year.

So the real question isn’t just whether The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is struggling.

It’s whether the show still feels like it has anywhere left to go. And right now, that answer feels pretty unclear.

A couple of years ago, I would have wanted the show to go through a full-cast reboot to see if there was any magic left.

(Bravo/Screenshot)

But at this point, the current cast and producers have run the show so far into the ground that I’m not convinced there’s any clawing back what made it so special in the first place.

Where do you stand on the fate of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, TV Fanatics?

Do you think the show has passed its prime and should finally be put out to pasture? Or do you think it’s still worth salvaging with a revamped cast?
