Unsolved Mysteries Volume 3 Is Happening at Netflix

Netflix has ordered up more Unsolved Mysteries. After rebooting the series last year, Netflix has released two seasons with a total of twelve episodes, each one delving into a new subject that has yet to be explained. Now, the streamer will have the series looking into more bizarre stories with Netflix renewing Unsolved Mysteries for a third season, set to debut in summer 2022.

Unsolved Mysteries comes from original series creators Cosgrove/Meurer Productions in collaboration with Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment. Like the original series, the Netflix reboot touches on unexplained disappearances and other tragic events along with UFO sightings and other strange occurrences. More than 5,000 tips have been submitted to the Unsolved Mysteries team on these 12 new cases after the show was rebooted on Netflix, and the FBI has since even reopened the case of Alonzo Brooks’ death.

“The Unsolved Mysteries production team at Cosgrove/Meurer Productions couldn’t be more excited about developing volume 3 of our successful Netflix series,” Dunn said in a statement. “We’re currently in production on more intriguing mysteries and we look forward to our viewers’ help in solving the new cases next summer. Thank you to our Unsolved Mysteries fans who have made the series such a huge success.”

Levy and 21 Laps Entertainment producing partner Josh Barry added: “We feel thrilled and privileged to be filming volume 3 of Unsolved Mysteries. The massive success of our last two volumes on Netflix proved that there is enduring and passionate love for this iconic franchise, and we can’t wait to dig into more of the stories that Unsolved Mysteries tells so uniquely well. 21 Laps is committed to emotional humanist stories, and to be able to tell more of these true stories of mystery alongside Cosgrove/Meurer who produced the original series, is a dream come true.”

While a new version of the classic theme song returns with Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries, one major difference with the reboot is that it doesn’t feature a host. Following the passing of original host Robert Stack, Dennis Farina hosted a Spike TV reboot of the series, though he has since passed away as well. When it came time for Netflix to develop a new version of the show, the decision was made not to cast a new host at all, as those involved figured no one could match what Stack brought with the original incarnation.

“We have also opted for a hostless format, because the late, legendary Robert Stack was a singular and irreplaceable presence,”Levy previously said in a press release. “In Robert’s absence, we are letting the spirit and the strength of the stories carry the narrative. Above all, our aspiration was to make a new chapter worthy of his memory and of iconic contribution to this iconic series.”

A release date for season 3 of Unsolved Mysteries hasn’t yet been announced, but it will arrive in the summer of 2022. For now, you can watch the first two seasons streaming on Netflix. As Stack himself used to say, for every mystery, someone somewhere holds the key. Maybe that person is you. This news comes to us from Deadline.
