While the main Yellowstone series has now ended, the Western franchise marches on, with one of the various spin-offs now all set to land on Netflix. Led by a pair of Hollywood icons in Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, the prequel series 1923 takes audiences back to the earlier days of the Duttons, and is due to hit the streamer in certain territories from next month.
Created by Taylor Sheridan, 1923 stars Brandon Sklenar (It Ends With Us, Drop), Darren Mann (Animal Kingdom), Michelle Randolph (A Snow White Christmas), James Badge Dale (Hightown), Marley Shelton (Scream), Brian Geraghty (Big Sky), Aminah Nieves (Blueberry), Julia Schlaepfer (The Politician), Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones), Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty), Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Peacemaker), Sebastian Roché (The Originals), and Timothy Dalton (Hot Fuzz, Toy Story 3) alongside Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

‘Yellowstone’ may not have been the juggernaut hit it became without Sheridan’s complete involvement.
The first season of the prequel series will land on Netflix on July 9, becoming available to stream on the platform in “most European regions, the United Kingdom, and places further afield, such as Latin America, including Brazil,” according to What’s on Netflix. 1923 joins the likes of Yellowstone itself and another prequel, 1883, as well as Sheridan’s action thriller series Lioness, which are also now available to stream on Netflix depending on where you’re located on this planet we call Earth.
‘1923’ Introduces a New Generation of Duttons

Debuting back in 2022, the first season of 1923 picks up a century before the events of the hugely popular Yellowstone, and tells the next installment of the Dutton family origin story. The prequel introduces a new generation of Duttons led by patriarch Jacob (Ford) and matriarch Cara (Mirren), following a generation of the Dutton family in 1923. The series follows the family as they face a variety of hardships, including Western Expansion, pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression.
While there is currently no word on when 1923 Season 2 will hit Netflix, the second season wrapped things up for good back in April with what was described by many fans as a “heartbreaking” finale. Much like the main Yellowstone series, 1923 has been met with widespread critical acclaim. The prequel series carries an overall rating of 95% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with Season 1 sitting at a “certified fresh” 90%, while Season 2 holds a perfect score of 100%. “Distinguished by the ineffable star power of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, 1923 is another solid if unrelentingly grim addition to Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe,” the critics’ consensus reads.
However, these feelings were not shared by audiences, with the series slapped with a seriously divisive rating of 53% on the Popcornmeter overall, with 1923 Season 1 landing a fallen bucket score of 56%. The second season fared even worse, with 49% standing in stark contrast to the critics’ perfect score. Despite this, 1923 saw huge viewership on Paramount+, and thus emerged as another win for Taylor Sheridan on the streamer.
