You Renewed for Season 4 Days Ahead of Season 3 Premiere on Netflix

Netflix is keeping the You train moving ahead of the upcoming premiere of season 3. Bringing back Penn Badgley and Victoria Pedretti, the new season debuts on the streaming service this Friday. Just days ahead of the new episodes, the company made the formal announcement that You has already been renewed for season 4 with a teaser video posted online. Casting news for season 4 of You will be announced at a later date. You can watch the teaser below.

Sera Gamble and Greg Berlanti developed You for Netflix with Gamble also serving as series showrunner. The show is based on Caroline Kepnes’ novel of the same name. In a statement, Gamble said, “Reading Caroline’s novel, Greg and I were instantly obsessed with Joe Goldberg and his twisted world view. And it’s been thrilling to watch Penn bring Joe to creepy yet compelling life. We’re deeply grateful that Netflix has shown You such monumental support, and that people around the world have enjoyed watching Joe really get it all very wrong over the past 3 seasons. The whole You team is excited to explore new, dark facets of love in season 4.”

In season 3 of You, “Joe and Love, now married and raising their baby, have moved to the balmy Northern California enclave of Madre Linda, where they’re surrounded by privileged tech entrepreneurs, judgmental mommy bloggers and Insta-famous biohackers, according to the Netflix logline. Joe is committed to his new role as a husband and dad but fears Love’s lethal impulsiveness. And then there’s his heart. Could the woman he’s been searching for all this time live right next door? Breaking out of a cage in a basement is one thing. But the prison of a picture-perfect marriage to a woman who’s wise to your tricks? Well, that’ll prove a much more complicated escape.”

Season 4 is produced by Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television. Greg Berlanti, Sera Gamble, Sarah Schechter, Leslie Morgenstein, David Madden, Gina Girolamo, John Scott, Neil Reynolds, Michael Foley, and Justin Lo are executive producing.

While it remains to be seen when the series will officially end, Gamble has already been mulling over an ending. Previously speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Gamble said, “Is it possible for Joe to go through all these experiences where we could all be like, ‘I think he deserves something better now.’ I’m not sure if that’s possible. Joe needs justice – but what does that mean? Does that mean prison? Does that mean death? I don’t know!”

Season 3 of You starts streaming on Friday, Oct. 15, on Netflix. The return is one of the most anticipated of the year for Netflix, and there are still others to come in before the end of the year. The Witcher will return with its long-awaited second season which debuts on Dec. 17. Meanwhile, the fourth season of the Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai will arrive on Dec. 31, coming in after the previous season kicked off the start of the year on Netflix.
