The Mandalorian is set to return on March 1, 2023, and showrunner Jon Favreau shared some exciting details about what we can expect. Favreau and Dave Filoni made an appearance at the CCXP event in Brazil via video link to tease what’s in store for the show’s third season.
For starters, Favreau promised a “much bigger scope” for the series. He also hinted that the season would reveal more about the title character, something that fans have been speculating about since the show first aired.
“I will say that the scope of it is getting bigger, we have really cool space battles, we have lots of Mandalorians, we have the planet of Mandalore which we’ve been talking about for a long time.”
Another thing Favreau hinted at was the possibility of returning characters from earlier seasons. This is an exciting prospect, as the previous seasons filled the universe with fascinating characters, and some potential crossovers would be amazing. There have been cameos from established Star Wars characters like The Clone Wars’ Ahsoka Tano, as well as appearances by Boba Fett, Bo-Katan Kryze, and many others. So if these characters come together for a big moment in Season 3, it could be a truly special occasion for Star Wars fans worldwide.

“We get to see the Mandalorian culture, and many of the wonderful actors you’ve seen in previous seasons return, and you’ll see them all work together on this show. It’s been a very ambitious season, a lot of our directors have returned, we have a very experienced team that have been working together for a long time and I think a lot of people are going to enjoy what we have in store.”

Jon Favreau Teases ‘More Surprises’ for The Mandalorian Season 3
Jon Favreau also revealed that more surprises would play a significant role in the plot. Grogu at the end of the first season’s episode one and Luke Skywalker at the end of Season 2 are two examples of well-kept secrets. He added that “Not everything is going to be a big surprise, but each week should have something unexpected happening and that’s the idea of having a serialized television show where, compared to a film, everybody gets to see a chapter, everybody talks about it and guesses what happens next. Hopefully each week will be like opening a Christmas present, with new surprises.”
It sounds like fans can expect even more impressive effects and visuals in Season 3 of The Mandalorian, as well as a more expansive story. And based on Favreau’s track record, there’s no reason not to trust that he’ll deliver on his promises. The Mandalorian Season 3 will premiere on March 1, 2023, on Disney+.
