Aggravated menacing charge against Bengals’ Mixon refiled

The Cincinnati Police Department refiled a charge of aggravated menacing against Bengals running back Joe Mixon on Friday stemming from an alleged incident that occurred Jan. 21.

“This decision was reached following the discovery of new evidence during the investigative process,” the department said in a statement Friday.

The statement added that the police department would not share details or evidence regarding the first-degree misdemeanor charge outside of a court setting.

Mixon allegedly pointed a firearm at a woman on Jan. 21 in Cincinnati, the day before the Bengals’ playoff game against the Buffalo Bills. A warrant was issued for his arrest Feb. 2, but the charge was initially dismissed the following day.

Mixon has been summoned to appear in court April 19, according to Kelsey Conway of The Enquirer.

The Bengals said in a statement that they were “aware” of the charge and “monitoring the situation” but would not comment further at this time.

Mixon was charged with misdemeanor assault in 2014 after punching a female student in the face while playing at Oklahoma. The school suspended him for one season. Mixon entered an Alford plea and received a one-year deferred sentence. He was also required to complete 100 hours of community service and undergo counseling. Surveillance video of the assault was released in late 2016.

Mixon was selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Bengals. The 26-year-old has spent his entire career with the franchise.
