Check out the final trailer for One Piece below.

Based on the manga series of the same name by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece follows the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates as they explore the dangerous oceans, lands and beyond in search of the “One Piece”, a fabled treasure that will make their captain, Monkey D. Luffy, “King of the Pirates.” But the Navy and various other rivals are on their ship’s tail, as they are not the only crew searching for the One Piece. Armed with skills, unbreakable friendship, and a body made of rubber, the Straw Hats are ready for the journey and even more ready to fight for their dreams together.

Developed by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda for Netflix, One Piece stars Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Vincent Regan as Vice Admiral Garp, and Morgan Davies as Koby. The rest of the cast includes Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeala.

The live-action series counts Matt Owens and Steven Maeda as writers, executive producers, and showrunners, with Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, and Eiichiro Oda on board as executive producers.

One Piece Could Be the Best Live-Action Manga Adaptation Ever Made

Netflix

Many fans of One Piece have been left feeling anxious about the Netflix adaptation. Anxiousness that has been made far worse by the recent efforts to adapt material by the streaming service. But it sounds like One Piece could be the best live-action adaptation ever made…as well as being actually good.

“The first thing we can hint at is the absolutely perfect casting for the series,” declared MovieWeb’s Matthew Mahler regarding the series. “The young Iñaki Godoy Jasso is pretty perfect as Monkey D. Luffy, the main protagonist of the show. He captures the boundless curiosity, contagious joy, and relentless optimism of the character, but also imbues him with a fittingly competitive and naive streak. He’s great at the screwball comedy aspects of the character, and has mastered a very specific kind of smile.”

He continued, revealing that “the real standout may be Jeff Ward, who plays a perfect Buggy the Clown,” before concluding that “We won’t reveal anything more here, except that both fans of the classic One Piece franchise and newcomers alike will likely be very pleased with the epic live-action series.”

One Piece is scheduled to premiere on August 31, 2023, on Netflix.
