iCarly Revival Premiere Date Arrives Along with New Teaser and Photos

The long-awaited iCarly revival now has a premiere date on Paramount+. Most of the cast will return on their new streaming home starting June 17. The stars of iCarly have reunited in a new behind-the-scenes video teasing the upcoming revival on Paramount+ this summer. It’s been previously revealed how most of the main stars of the original Nickelodeon show will be back to reprise their roles. This includes Miranda Cosgrove and Jerry Trainor, who respectively played Carly and Spencer Shay in the original series. The two both appear together in the video below, along with first-look photos.

In the clip, Miranda Cosgrove and Trainor give viewers a little tour of the new “Spencer’s Apartment” set. It looks to be an expanded version of the one we saw in the original iCarly, as the actors say Spencer has since gotten rich. Also featured is a recreation of Spencer’s “Bottle Bot,” which had to be remade as “the original’s in the Smithsonian.” Other contraptions and knick-knacks around the home certainly help give it that Spencer Shay vibe.

The official logline for the new iCarly reads: “Ten years after signing off of one of TV’s most iconic shows, Carly, Spencer, and Freddie are back, navigating the next chapter of their lives, facing the uncertainties of life in their twenties.”

Nathan Kress also returns as Freddie Benson, one of Carly’s friends from the original show. Other cast members include Laci Mosley as Harper, Jaidyn Triplett as Millicent, Mary Scheer as Marrisa Benson, Danielle Morrow as Nora Dershlit, and Reed Alexander as Nevel Papperman. Of course, fans of the original show will immediately notice that Jennette McCurdy is not involved, so Carly’s old best friend Sam Puckett won’t be seen in the revival.

“I quit a few years ago to try my hand at writing and directing. It’s going great,” Jennette McCurdy said in March, revealing that she’s since retired from acting. “My experience with acting is, I’m so ashamed of the parts I’ve done in the past. I resent my career in a lot of ways. I feel so unfulfilled by the roles that I played and felt like it was the most cheesy, embarrassing. I did the shows that I was on from like 13 to 21, and by 15, I was already embarrassed.”

Making it clear she doesn’t want to revisit her roles as a child star, McCurdy added: “If it were a director I really admired, or somebody whose work I really admired, then I would be so excited. If a role in a Kenneth Lonergan film came along and I was able to audition, I would be like, ‘Oh my god, yes.’ But just because of my past and the auditions that would come across my eyes… It was like, ‘Okay, this is what the industry sees me as.’ I don’t want to do that. I’m not willing to do that.”

Maybe Sam will still be referenced in some way in the new iCarly, similar to what the new Saved by the Bell did with Dustin Diamond and Screech. We’ll all find out one way or another when the iCarly revival hits Paramount+ this summer. The new tour video of the set featuring Maranda Cosgrove and Jerry Trainor comes to us from Paramount+.
