Kevin Spacey reenacted his House of Cards character to deliver a Christmas video titled Being Frank with Tucker. In a sit-down with conservative political commentator Tucker Carlson, Spacey reprised the role of Frank Underwood to discuss current politics and Netflix. Spacey’s Christmas video is somewhat of a holiday tradition. The Academy Award actor began sharing them in 2018, but didn’t post any in 2021 and 2022.

During the seven-minute video uploaded to YouTube on Christmas Eve, Spacey criticized Netflix for letting him go while he starred in the streamer’s House of Cards. Spacey starred in the hit series from 2013 to 2017, earning numerous accolades (including one Golden Globe Award and two Screen Actors Guild Awards) for portraying corrupt politician Frank Underwood. House of Cards was the first television series produced by a studio for Netflix and proved to be a critical and commercial success for the streamer. As Carlson asked Spacey if he realized that the intro sound on the Netflix app is derived from House of Cards, Spacey shared:

“So, it is bizarre they decided to publicly cut ties with me on allegations alone, allegations that have now been proven false. Because I don’t think there’s any question. Netflix exists because of me. I put them on the map, and they tried to put me in the ground.”

Spacey was fired from House of Cards as allegations of sexual misconduct began to come to light in 2017; those allegations included complaints of inappropriate behavior towards several men on set. In 2022,

Spacey won a civil suit against Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp, who claims Spacey assaulted him in 1986 (when Rapp was 14 and Spacey was 26). Earlier this year, Spacey was acquitted of charges of sexual assault in a London court.

Spacey (as Frank) and Carlson, who was dismissed from his job at Fox News in April and now hosts Tucker on X, also took time to converse about the current state of politics in the United States. Discussing the upcoming presidential election, Spacey backed Republican candidates Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley. About the latter, he noted:

“She’s no doubt learned a thing or two from watching me. But I think in the end we need someone in the White House who’s not afraid like me. Not afraid to push our country, or a journalist, in the right direction, if it comes to that.”

During the Christmas video, Spacey continued his game of make-belief by offering Carlson the vice presidential seat for Underwood’s 2024 political campaign.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Christmas video without some joyful holiday words, and Spacey commemorated the festive occasion by detailing how Frank would love to celebrate:

“The truth is, I love nothing better on this day than to do a line of blow, drink a whiskey and coke, hit a reindeer with my car, and wish you all the naughtiest Christmas ever.”

Spacey most recently starred in the indie thriller Control alongside Lauren Metcalfe and Mark Hampton and will next star in Peter Five Eight, scheduled for release on March 22, 2024.
