Cameron Diaz Breaks Silence on Jamie Foxx’s Reported “Meltdown” on Back in Action Set

Summary

  • Cameron Diaz defends Jamie Foxx against rumors of on-set meltdowns, praising his talent and professionalism.
  • Production of Back in Action was halted due to Foxx’s hospitalization, not his behavior, and Diaz supports his decision to remain silent about both his health and rumors.
  • The movie, also starring Glen Close and Andrew Scott, is expected to be released in 2024.

Cameron Diaz has spoken out in support of Jamie Foxx following reports of his “on-set meltdowns” earlier this year while filming their Netflix movie, Back in Action. At the time, it was reported that Diaz had been caught in the crossfire of Foxx screaming and shouting at people, as well as firing three people from the movie in the midst of his rant. However, it seems that this was perhaps not the case, as Diaz has now explained.

The reports from the set of Back in Action, a movie that brought Diaz back to Hollywood after she retired from acting to be a mother to her son, Raddix, suggested that Foxx’s unpredictable behavior had led Diaz to deciding to once again bow out of the acting scene. Speaking on the Lipstick on the Rim podcast, the actress has refuted claims that she was “miserable” and “never going to make another movie again” because of Foxx. She said:

“Jamie is the best. I love that guy so much. He’s such a special person, and he’s so talented, so much fun. We have so much fun on the set with him, and he’s just a professional on every level. I really hate all of the things that were being said about our set. You just want to scream at the top of your lungs, like, ‘What are you talking about?'”

Production on the movie was halted, but not due to Foxx’s behavior. In April, Foxx was hospitalized, and although he has not spoken much about the incident since, his condition was serious enough to have many people deeply worried. Fox’s decision to remain silent about both his health and on-set rumors is one that Diaz commends.

He’s like, ‘Nope. Just let them [talk],’ We know the truth. Still, it just really made me angry.

Diaz and Foxx Will Be Back in Action on Netflix…Sometime

It was first announced that Cameron Diaz would be making a movie comeback in Back in Action in 2022, and over the following year the movie’s cast grew to include Glen Close, Andrew Scott, McKenna Roberts, Kyle Chandler and Jamie Demetriou. Filming began in December 2022 and ran until late April 2023, with body-doubles being used to complete certain scenes after Foxx’s hospitalization.

So far, the only details released about the plot of the movie is a short logline that reads:

Woman who has been retired for 6 years comes back smarter and stronger than ever.

There have been several reports that the movie will finally be released sometime in 2024, but so far Netflix has given no indication as to exactly when. In the meantime, Jamie Foxx has been one of a number of celebrities to have been caught in the middle of historical claims of sexual harassment. The claims, going back to 2015, have been refuted by Foxx, and there has been no suggestion that the release of Back in Action has been impacted as a result.
