15 Books Becoming Movies in 2023

If you love books as much as you love movies, then 2023 has been a very big year for you! As much fun as it is to imagine our favorite book characters in our own minds, it’s equally thrilling to see books made into movies.

This year’s slate of books making the transition to the big screen includes a wide range of stories, from new takes on iconic classics to adaptations of relatively recent bestsellers. The coming-of-age favorite “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” for one, hit theaters this spring. The recent string of Agatha Christie adaptations continued with the eerie “A Haunting in Venice,” and Alice Walker’s seminal “The Color Purple” is also getting a fresh take that will translate the award-winning Broadway musical adaptation into a film musical. And, of course, we’ve got the would-be blockbusters, including the “Hunger Games” prequel, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” Unfortunately, the one book-to-screen adaptation we’ll have to wait a little longer for is “Dune: Part II,” which was delayed to 2024 amid the ongoing actors’ strike.

As for onscreen book adaptations, there’s really something for everyone in 2023’s list of attractions. Ahead, take a look at the most-anticipated stories making the leap from the page to the screen in 2023 — and 10 that you can watch right now.
