aespa appears to be stepping into something called LEMONADE. A dedicated Instagram account, @lemonithesourmakers, posted an announcement on May 29 with the hashtags #aespa and #LEMONADE. It looks like the SM Entertainment group has a new project coming.
The message was short and loud: “Let the PARTY start!!!!!” The caption gave nothing else away. The energy in those five exclamation marks hit just right.
The account name is worth a second look. @lemonithesourmakers plays on “lemoni the sour makers.” The name fits the LEMONADE branding, and there’s something a bit playful about it. This is not aespa‘s official account. It’s a separate handle, built specifically around this project. A dedicated launch channel from day one suggests LEMONADE is rolling out as its own distinct thing.
aespa has earned the room to make something like this interesting. The group debuted under SM Entertainment in November 2020. Members Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning came in with one of K-pop’s most ambitious concepts. Their “SM Culture Universe” built a full lore around AI versions of each member. Nothing else in the genre was doing quite that at the time.
K-pop circles call aespa part of the fourth generation, a wave of groups that hit the scene around 2020 and pushed the genre into new production territory. aespa helped set the tone for that era.
The music backed it up. “Black Mamba” launched the group hard. “Next Level” pushed into hyperpop territory and crossed over globally. “Savage” and “Drama” kept the momentum going, and the fanbase called MYs grew right alongside them. That community has become one of the more committed in K-pop.
aespa has made genuine international moves too. They’ve performed at major festivals and charted across multiple markets. SM Entertainment has consistently leaned on them as a flagship act of this generation.
LEMONADE still doesn’t have a confirmed format. The launch post gives no specifics. It could be a single, an EP, or something else entirely. The name and the hashtags are all that’s confirmed right now.
The launch through a standalone account is a clear signal, though. LEMONADE appears to have its own rollout identity, separate from aespa’s main channels. The party has apparently started. K-pop fans will want to keep an eye on @lemonithesourmakers for what comes next.
